3 Americans sentenced to death for attempting coup in DRC

Source: Salon

hree Americans were sentenced to death by a military tribunal in Kinshasa on Friday, along with 34 other participants in a failed coup this summer in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

21-year-old Marcel Malanga, 36-year-old Benjamin Reuben Zalman-Polun, and 21-year-old Tyler Thompson were among 50 suspects for whom prosecutors sought the death penalty, though 14 were acquitted. Malanga is the son of coup architect Christian Malanga.

At the time of the attempted overthrow of DRC President Félix Tshisekedi in May, the American DRC Ambassador Lucy Tamlyn condemned the coup attempt and promised U.S. cooperation.

“We are cooperating with authorities in DRC to the fullest extent possible, as they investigate these criminal acts and hold accountable any American citizen involved,” she wrote in a post to X.

The Harris admin does a roundup mass deportation of all J6 participants AND the FUCKING suits to DRC?
We can send our rapists, criminals, Mentally impaired MAGA’s, drug gangs which make up all the coup crowd down south, for some justice accountability.

the United States. I'd even ask them what country they'd like to be deported to... and, if they can gain entrance from the desired government, let them go there. But that's a high bar for a Maga to make.

Which is why you cannot deport citizens.

To be clear this only strictly applies to ‘natural born citizens’.

left by the autocratic rule of Mobutu. They've finally got a stable, democratically elected government (although we''ll see if the president leaves on time) and a bunch of men wanting to overthrow it will not be taken at all peacefully.

I don't see the State Dept. intervening much in this one.

Maybe we can persuade the DRC to send their prosecutors over to take care of our own recent coup attempt.

"Hard for a kid to say no to Daddy" and all thayt crap., but the DRC is probably going to be in no mood to risk looking weak, not when their new government is still relatively fragile.

who may have just been in the wrong place at the wrong time. If that's the case, I hope there will be diplomatic efforts on their behalf. If they are guilty, its still a shame they got involved.

Trying to overthrow a government and failing is usually a fatal exercise.

I am exactly as sad as I would be if we had responded to 1/6 as we should have, with full military might. In other words, not at all.
