Republican Leader Warns of 'Real Problem' Heading Into Election

Jason Thielman, executive director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), warned on Friday about a "real problem" of cash flow when it comes to the GOP's ability to maintain momentum going into this year's election. Control of the Senate is up for grabs this year as Democrats and Republicans view themselves as having a chance of winning a majority.
Democrats are defending several seats in competitive states, meaning they must hold onto nearly every seat they currently have to maintain a majority. Democrats currently hold 51 seats, including four independents who caucus with the party, while Republicans hold 49. To take full control of the Senate, Republicans must flip only two seats, with Ohio and Montana as their primary targets.
With Senator Joe Manchin retiring, West Virginia, one of the most conservative states in the country, is expected to strengthen the GOP's position, making a majority more likely. Elsewhere, Democrats are defending seats in Republican-leaning Montana and Ohio, as well as battling for victory in races in Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
"With that West Virginia seat, the starting line for the battle for the Senate is 50-50. Even if Democrats hold every other seat, if Republicans take the White House, that means they also take the Senate," Susan Davis, political correspondent on The NPR Politics Podcast, recently said. According to the Associated Press on Friday, Thielman warned that the "real problem" for the Republican Party amid the 2024 election is a significant financial disadvantage compared to their Democratic counterparts.

For me it's Democratic all the way. I never care about the person - it's the party and the platform that counts.
Back in 80, they voted for RayGun because he had charisma - meanwhile they got shafted by raygunomics...

(Once in my youth, I voted for a GOPee House candidate, when I knew that the Democratic candidate was corrupt as hell. I should've remembered that the worst Democrat is better than the best repuglikan. I've never made that mistake since, and never will again.)

(24,364 posts)I still had Watergate on the brain, and wasn't interested in supporting a definite crook. The guy I voted against was later indicted and convicted for sh*t he did. The guy I voted for eventually became another typical RW hack senator. Whaddya do?

(24,364 posts)phone calls, door-knocking--he won. But died in a plane crash on his way to the victory party. The crook got on the ballot by manipulating the state party committee, IIRC.
The only real power an individual legislator has (esp in the House) is their caucus vote. Who will be the majority leader or Speaker. Everything else is small and whip-able.

This is free PR for the RNC.

(7,410 posts)Wouldn't it be satisfying if we were to discover that no matter how little or much was spent on election advertising, the better choice won anyway? That possibility is one which you'll never see reported by the corporate media.
I'm not saying money doesn't predicate a win at the polls. But it's not always the most important factor, especially when the opposing war chests are comparable. I think voter attitude has a lot more influence on election outcomes than does campaign finances. To whatever extent voter attitude is affected by campaign spending on media advertising, I think the talking heads of the news media have more influence. That, then, is where the deal-sealing campaign money goes, right into the pockets of media news's ownership/management".
Buying corporate propaganda machines to attain/maintain control over the biggest economy on the planet? Should be investigated as soon as we elect a government that works for the electorate, eh?
"Fox News, et al., is not so much a media entity as it is a discount money launderer.
