Multiple people were shot Saturday near the southeastern Kentucky city of London in what was described as an active shooter situation, authorities said.
The Laurel County Sheriff's Office reported that "numerous people were shot" and Interstate 75 was closed about nine miles north of London. No further details were provided.
Trooper Scottie Pennington, a Kentucky State Police spokesperson, wrote on social media that the suspect had not been caught. Pennington urged residents in the area to stay inside. Louisville ATF agents wrote on social media they are responding and assisting state and local police with a "critical incident" near Interstate 75.
"Kentucky, we are aware of a shooting on I-75 in Laurel County," Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear wrote in a social media post. "Law enforcement has shut the interstate down in both directions at exit 49. Please avoid the area. We will provide more details once they are available."

(34,499 posts)There are millions of yahoos with millions of guns, any one of them could decide to start shooting cars from any one of millions of highway overpasses.
That is a fact of life in the US of A.

(34,709 posts)They shut down exit 49 of I-75 and the area near US Route 25 is closed, also the interstate I-75 is closed in both directions. I'm not sure what that will accomplish since they don't know if the shooter is on the highway.
It sounds like the shooting happened on or near the highway.

(23,544 posts)Gov. Beshear is quoted as saying, "Americans should not have to live in fear of being shot crossing bridges and overpasses." So I assume that's what happened.
With that sentiment in KY.

(102,065 posts)Mayor Randall Weddle said no one died in the incident, which closed the interstate for nearly three hours before it reopened about 9:30 p.m.
The shooter, who has not been caught, fired shots at I-75 from the edge of a wooded area next to the highway, he said.

(1 post)As a Canadian I am very trepidatious in treading into another countries politics and concerns, the same perhaps other countries may feel offended by outsiders sticking their noses into business that concerns themselves and no other. We however are neighbours and it would be foolish of you to think that we are not watching events taking place in your country. We are after all a mouse sleeping next to an elephant and the impacts of your culture, opinions, biases etc can and often do spill across the border. Thats often not a bad thing, we share many good aspects of freedom, personal responsibility and the general well being of our fellow citizens. I just want to say that I dearly hope your election goes the way I feel a majority of real American Patriots want it to because if it doesnt I can see a certain chaos which will see one country trying to devour another. Its happened many times.
This is my first submission to DU although Ive followed for 20 years, never felt I should stick my nose into other people business until now. Peace.

I know what you mean I wouldn't tell you how to run your country either but we love to have people from everywhere on our forum.

(17,048 posts)I did some travelling to South America this summer and my guide in Ecuador told me: Please know that the whole world is watching your election this year, and hoping that Trump is not given another chance. I told him that many of us really don't that to happen.
Still, it was a sobering moment to realize that people around the world, who have no vote in this election, are watching and are affected by the outcome.

Entirely , really. It just seems, maybe, it is a common POV. You know, headlines. You get immune to them. Like, "once in one-hundred-year thunderstorm invaded peaceful hamlet" or "impossibly thick fog attacked I-75 near exit 49 today, death toll undetermined". America goes, "Yeah, what about it?"
