Hello everyone,
What a week it's been! I hope you've enjoyed what has arguably been the best Democratic National Convention ever. Like many people I had deep concerns about what might happen if Joe Biden dropped out, and like many people, I'm ecstatic to have been proven wrong.
The sequence of events that we've just witnessed will go down in history as one of the greatest ever political sacrifices by an incumbent president, followed by extraordinary, unprecedented unity as the Party rallied around Kamala Harris, followed by an almost flawless national convention -- all in the space of about 30 days.
We still have an election to win! But right now, it feels good to be a Democrat -- really good. And after almost 10 years of psychological abuse by Donald Trump, it's great to feel good.
And now for your reminder...
There are just a few days left to contribute to the DU Summer Fund Drive!
Thank you to all DU Star Members, and particularly to everyone who has stepped up during this fund drive week. As you know, DU cannot survive on ad revenue alone, so we rely on your support to keep moving forward. We were unsure whether it was a good idea to run this year's fund drive at the same time as the DNC, and unfortunately it seems that the convention has acted as a bit of a distraction. This week, DU has been busier than at any time during the past year, but contributions are down slightly.
We understand that there are more important places for people to put their dollars right now. It's crucial that Democrats take the White House and Congress this year, and I'm sure that you, like me, are getting constant fundraising pitches from political campaigns. Here at DU, we prefer to avoid flooding our members with requests for cash, and when we do have to fundraise, we try to make it a fun event.
Unfortunately this reluctance to ask for money does make us slightly ineffective fundraisers So I'm going to make one final pitch for this year's Summer Fund Drive -- if you can, please purchase or renew a Star Membership right now.
- Folks who don't have a Star Membership can get more information about them here.
- We encourage DUers to sign up for a monthly subscription which will help us to stabilize our budget.
- Or you can make an one-time contribution which will get you a Star Membership or renew your current Star Membership. (This will not affect your monthly subscription, if you already have one.)
- If you prefer to pay by mail, you can send a check or money order made out to Democratic Underground at:

Thank you again for your support! Here's to a Dem blowout in November! Let's make it happen!

(22,514 posts)You do not have to be a member of PayPal though. Click here for the "One-time online payment" option, and after you enter the amount you would like to pay, you'll be taken to a PayPal page.
On that page, there should be a grey button at the bottom which says "Pay with Debit or Credit Card" -- clicking that will allow you to check out as a guest without signing in to PayPal.
Thank you!

(15,660 posts)DUers, please, consider a contribution to DU an investment as important as supporting any individual campaign. It is a precious, unique, and fragile resource.
Dont wait for them to send Grovelbot after you. The last time they did, I think it shook a couple of my teeth loose!

(18,892 posts)I wish I could do more right now. I think about what an incredible contribution you folks have made metaphorically but also literally, DU has raised a huge amount of money (thanks Omaha Steve and givers) ; your work to keep the page running brings the whole country together. Ill figure out a way to do more.
Maybe we could get Omaha Steve on board to look inward to DU ʻ a little bit.

(56,413 posts)I do not see a reason to needlessly pass along fees to facilitating entities that just make up programs that permit them to electronically rake off fees while sitting there doing nothing except passing along the rest. For those dinosaurs of us that still pay by check--therefore giving the recipient 100% of the donation--please prominently furnish a mailing address with these appeals. If there was one on your link, I am too dense to have found it.
On behalf of those of us that still use checks, my thanks!

Now, THAT is something I can work with! I'm in the USA for another 24 hours. I think I can get a check off in that time.

(182 posts)to have their service DeJoy mail checks, so it doesn't matter where I am, the bank is doing US Mail. I send a minimal amount each month, but it adds up to a decent contribution over the year, and it is essentially painless. Thank you EarlG and Elad.

(9,425 posts)Sometimes I can decrease an image and there isn't a problem.
Sometimes I attempt to decrease an image and that image taunts me until I give up. It's so frustrating.
Whenever I'm successful at resizing an image, I'll make a copy and will place the name of that image with a DU in parenthesis so I know it already fits the DU requirements.

including the ones I use in my sig line.
I also have a page with links to DU Classics (like the Door Buzzard) because otherwise I can never find them again.

(22,514 posts)The most important thing is that the image you want to use for your sticky is cropped into an exact square shape. If it's a square, then the size doesn't matter -- when it is shrunk down by our software, the aspect ratio won't change, so it should look correct.

(12,831 posts)He's not to old to run for President and not to old to be President. Doing both at once for an octogenarian is damn near impossible that requires 18 hour work days.
Biden's legacy will be the shape the country was in when he was in office. His accomplishments as a public servant are near the top, if not the top. May I say again, Thank You Joe.
