Hello DU!
Valentine's Day falls in the middle of the week next week so we thought we'd get a head start on our February fund drive. That's right, it's time to spread the love to all your friends on Democratic Underground! From now until the end of the day on Thursday February 15, we're running our annual Valentine Hearts promotion.
Many sites which rely on advertising are going through a tough time right now, and unfortunately DU has not been immune from this trend. I'll have more to say on that a bit later in the week, but for now, let's just say that we could really use your help.
- Purchase a DU Star Membership or renew your existing membership, and we'll give you Valentine hearts to share with your DU friends. For every dollar you spend, you'll get one Valentine heart to give away.
- After you complete your purchase, you will immediately receive a DU Mail message containing simple instructions on how to give away Valentine hearts to your friends.
- Monthly subscribers will also get some hearts to share -- if you are monthly subscriber, we'll send you a DU Mail message shortly with instructions on how to claim your hearts.
PSA: IF YOU HAVE A STAR MEMBERSHIP WITH AN AUTOMATIC MONTHLY OR YEARLY RECURRING PAYMENT, PLEASE READ
If you already have a recurring payment, and you set up another one, your first one will NOT be stopped. You can either stop a previous recurring payment yourself, or you can contact me to do it for you. If you want to do it yourself, here's how:
2) When you get there, look in the left column (if not on a mobile device) and you should find all of the automatic payments that you've set up. You can manage/cancel your payments from there.
If you already have a recurring Star Membership and you want to buy hearts this week, my advice would be to use the One-Time Payment option in order to avoid setting up a second recurring payment.
And with that said...
Ready to get started?

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you do not receive a DU Mail message immediately after making your purchase, please be patient. In some instances there may be a short delay in processing your hearts, but you should receive them within 15-20 minutes at most. If you have to wait longer than that, please send a DU Mail message to EarlG.
Thank you for supporting Democratic Underground!

(5,410 posts)on February 15th--- sometimes barely after I realized it was happening....
Why not extend it through the whole month of February??
It would result in more support for the site, obviously....
Why not make March the month of Shamrocks??? for Saint Patrick's Day....
Fireworks in July, Halloween Pumpkins in October, Christmas Trees in December....
Participation is of course voluntary-- but those would all result in more support for the site, year round...
I don't think anyone would feel 'pressured' by such promotions,
and it would make things more interesting for everyone, IMHO

(420 posts)This heart giving reminds me of being a kid in school, where popular kids got valentines and unpopular, poor, or introverted kids did not. Although I understand rewarding those whose posts I enjoy most, I'd like to give mine to those without. Thank you.

(221,051 posts)There are a lot of DUers who rec a lot more than they post, so they get overlooked if they haven't posted recently.
10 Turtle Day
(420 posts)I'm kind of new and still learning my way around the site. I've been poking around but still not sure how to see if those who rec a post have hearts already or not. But I've given away most of mine just in my travels through the replies of the various posts that interest me. I must say, it's getting harder to find people without hearts so my fears about anyone going without are probably unfounded. I'm seeing that people on this site are very generous and that's a wonderful thing!
