City inches closer to the seasonal snowfall record

Anchorage is inching closer to breaking the nearly 60-year-old seasonal snowfall record.

The National Weather Service had recorded 131.7 inches of snow as of Saturday afternoon. That is less than an inch from the 132.6-inch mark set in the winter of 1954-55 in Alaska's largest city.

Meteorologist Neil Murakami says it's hard to predict if the record will be broken this weekend. Some of the snow falling Saturday was not sticking with warming temperatures. He says some snow may accumulate when temperatures drop overnight, but after that, Anchorage is looking at a dry Sunday and Monday.
