Troopers: Argument leads to boy's death

A 9-year-old boy in the village of Pilot Station was shot and killed Friday afternoon during an argument with another 9-year-old boy, Alaska State Troopers reported on Sunday.

The shot came from a .177 caliber pellet rifle, troopers said. The other boy fired the air rifle while the two were having an argument, and the round hit the child in the chest, troopers said.

The injured boy was taken to the Pilot Station health clinic for medical attention, but succumbed to his injuries, troopers said.

Troopers are continuing to investigate the shooting. They haven't yet released names of either boy.

3. So very sad. Another reason students should be taught safety rules for as many dangerous

practices as possible.

I fear that video games contribute to people particularly young people ignoring the danger of firearms.

My grandson who is an ardent game player and loves those that involve shooting learned a lesson at the skeet range.

I gave him a new Remington 1100, youth model shotgun and after covering safety rules proceeded to station 7.

After explaining the rudiments of lead I reminded him of the importance of keeping his head placed firmly on the stock.

After three times with obvious zero understanding I allowed him to shoot.

He mounted the gun to his shoulder, head at least an inch above the stock, called "pull", I released the target, he pointed the gun in the general direction of the target, pulled the trigger, at which time the stock proceeded to teach him a lesson.

He turned to grandpa and said, "Shotguns kick harder than video games."

To put things in context, he attends classes for students 3-5 years older than he and on the last SAT test he scored 100%.

One little boy dead and another whose life will never be the same. My heart breaks for both familis.

5. I'm not sure how this youngster can even process what he did.

He probably sees this type of behavior in the media and around him and thinks its just make believe.
