Bentley will appeal dismissal of refugee lawsuit
The governor's office filed a notice of appeal Tuesday with the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, though had not submitted formal arguments Tuesday morning.
In a statement, Bentley said U.S. Magistrate Judge John Ott dismissed his lawsuit on a technicality and not ruled on his allegations that the federal government was not providing proper reporting on refugee settlement.
My problem is not with individual refugees, rather my issue is with the federal government and the unwillingness to enforce their own laws and follow their procedures, Bentley said in a statement.
Bentley's lawsuit was the climax of a series of letters and orders that followed the terror attacks in Paris last November. Bentley accused the federal government of not giving him enough information on refugee resettlement particularly on those fleeing Syria's brutal civil war and ordered state agencies not to participate in Syrian refugee settlement.
