It will still become law and he won't be able to do a victory lap. But even more importantly, he is doing it because he can't get his R controlled congress to pass the SAVE ACT, He explicitly admitted that in his statement this morning.
So, let's see. Bill enacted? Check. No credit to trump? Check. No dangerous SAVE Act? Check.
Trifecta!

(115,440 posts)but it would be the ultimate in political suicide for R's to change their votes then to sustain his veto.
So, I will bet Trump's ego, ignorance, and arrogance will "win" the day and it will be allowed to take effect.

(23,237 posts)Unless the 10 day mechanism is complete and it's law without his signature. Then, he has no say.

(84 posts)override the veto. Trump may be considering that. But perhaps Im giving him too much credit. 😁

Is that where we are headed?

He's just a sh¡tty spokesperson for their evil at this point. He only plays at presidenting. Like he plays golf. Which he hasn't done in a while. What's up with that?

(3,051 posts)That it will automatically become law? What is the point of not signing it unless he's trying to make his cult believe that he is doing something to get the Save Act passed.

(5,058 posts)But I have one speculation - If he signs it, he's admitting there's an affordability crisis.
Okay, one more speculation - He doesn't stand to profit off the bill.

(26,194 posts)He is unable to admit that his presidency is anything but perfect in any way. reality be damned. So he will not sign a bill that helps with housing because everything is already
perfect. Yes, I think he's that deluded.

(4,357 posts)he can use it for leverage. He doesn't understand losing so big that he doesn't have leverage. He probably thinks he can threaten enough people into changing their minds. It has worked before. And he isn't good at math.

(5,058 posts)of the hoopla. Though I don't think a ceremony would improve their chances in November, I'm sure it would have been a brief endorphin rush for their morale which is being robbed by their cult leader. The bill itself won't even help them. It's too little too late. No one will feel it's impact in the immediate future (if ever).
Shameful joy on my part? No, just joy.

(114,804 posts)He'll sign the housing bill, which contains some of the provisions already contained in his quasi legal executive orders, in return for passing the SAFE (Stop Americans From Electing) Act, a horror show which will disproportionately remove access to voting from any woman who has ever been married and has not retained a paper tra9l, which is most of us.
Bad deal. Since no one has challenged his EO, which banned investment banks from snapping up affordable housing and jacking the prices up to the stratosphere, I think we can afford to wait another two years for the SAFE Act to die a permanent and ignominious death.
So let him take the hit for this one. People with 4 kids crammed into one bedroom apartments in lousy neiighborhoods will remember.
