...and they are super pissed with their electrical bills. They were complaining of $800 dollar utility bills. All the while, their jobs are disappearing and they blame a lot of it on AI data processing centers.
If these two red states are indicators, others will soon follow. The tariffs have driven up the price of everything, if you can find it on the shelf at all? People are not happy with the economy.
In my opinion, this high inflation may creep into a few more states before November. This does not bode well for Trump and the MAGA Republicans. If his war continues, the price of gas will probably increase again very soon?
All of us are experiencing high inflation but a few states are seeing hyper inflation and they simply cannot afford it. We will see if there is a political price to pay?

(8,279 posts)yes, I know.. but in this little town its the only place to shop!... I went in for a bucket a Tidy Cats cat litter. No big deal, right? Wrong! Not only was there NO Tidy Cats, there was only the cheapest of the cheap non-clumping cat litter, period. I asked an "associate" if they had more and just hadn't stocked it yet; she checked and said, "no... everything we've got is just what you see. We've had trouble getting inventory in.
When we start getting down to where cat litter is hard to find on shelves, we're scraping the bottom of barrel, people!

(2,912 posts)The Waltons need those profits for other investments like owning the Colorado Avalanche, The Denver Nuggets, The Denver Broncos and several other professional sports teams.......they are smart and didn't buy the Colorado Rockies........
Oh and they also bought the professional Denver Soccer or LaCross Team............
They want a new covered stadium for some of the teams, and are gonna pay to build it, but what the public doesn't understand is that it will probably cost the taxpayers a hundred million or two to build up the infrastructure around it......Electrical, Natural Gas, Water, sewer, roads, bridges, etc...

Our Mississippi and Alabama siblings and cousins, their children and grandchildren will bitch and moan about the cost of gas, groceries, health care -- then they blame it on the socialists, and vote Republican.

(5,802 posts)People will complain about prices all week and how their food stamps are getting cut, then they go to church on Sunday where the preacher tells them that Democrats are trying to turn their kids gay and trans, and are giving all of their tax money to dark-skinned people.

(25,021 posts)The Guardian did a piece on this group of voters in Michigan, Wyoming, and one or two other states, and found these people were willing to ditch Democracy to get their 18th century vision of the world. High prices, that they will see as a temporary evil for the benefit of long term good (their perceived long term good) are irrelevant.

(2,460 posts)Trump is rigging the midterms right out there in the open. Today he fired whats left of the Federal Election Commission. His DOJ is threatening election workers with prosecution for simply doing their jobs. His ICE masked terrorists are planning to secure the polls. The list goes on and on.
We comfort ourselves with observations like the OP. In the same way hyperbolic headlines claiming the White House in disarray, Trump terrified of this or that, blue tsunami, etc. But its all bs. The fix is going down. If were relying on an exemplary GOTV we may be whistling past the graveyard
Get out on that freeway overpass, canvas that neighborhood, postcard, phone bank, something. Coming here isnt enough.
Heres a link to phone bank for Talarico https://jamestalarico.com/phone-bank-training-guide/]. Pick a candidate. Theyre all doing it.
The final word is that we need to be ready to hit the streets should the steal come down. Do you think Americans are up for it? I worry.
