I had used a line in a previous post quoted from a musical entitled L’il Abner (if you know, you know… if you don’t, look up the comic strip by that name on Wiki. Despite its author and artist Al Capp’s Republican Party affiliation, it was brilliant) and I was thinking about a musical number from the Broadway musical and the film, in fact the only memorable moment (except for the appearance of Julie Newmar as Stupefyin’ Jones 😍 ) sung by the great Stubby Kaye titled Jubilation T. Cornpone here:

The people all sitting on their front porches staring at every car driving by. You see a lot of Deliverance looking folks on that trip. Yikes!

15. It's a funny thing:

I saw this film for the first time when I was a kid and generally didn’t like most musicals because this bursting into song stuff didn’t work for me, Except for West Side Story and weirdly, Carousel.

But I think I was 13 or 14 and it was on NBC Saturday Night at the Movies, I was home alone, and I thought it was terrific. When my mom came home from work that night and I told her what I’d seen, she informed me that it had been considered at best a second-tier musical by the pros and she was though, glad I enjoyed it. It was then that I began to understand how I could like something that others did not and that I was entitled to my opinion. Beforehand, I always thought there was something wrong with me because I loved The Three Stooges and many people, especially my mom, despised them. It was a learning experience.

Li'l Abner just goes over people's heads these days, I think. The song you posted about Jubilation T. Cornpone is a good example. Who knows what the word "reconnoiter" means nowadays? The "second tier" is currently where you find the first tier.
