Another loss for health

The National Institutes of Health, through their Environmental Health Institute published a well respected journal, Environmental Health Perspectives. They accepted international research concerning human exposure in the environment and the impact on human health. Culprits, certain behaviors such as proximity to high sources (traffic, industry, etc.) and often chemicals by name, were studied for their effect on cancer rates, heart disease, infant mortality, infertility, fetal development, and other issues chemical safety tests do not include. It also included rebuttals and discussions from affected "shareholders." It had an impact factor of over 10.
Many would be surprised by some of the findings and also the fact that the information does not make its way into mainstream medicine. It does exist though to be used.
As of June 2025 the journal was transferred to the American Chemical Institute after having lost the government funding for publishing. Access to the archives has been free and is so currently, but expect that to change.
Reading this journal over the years I often wondered how it managed to survive the likely objections of powerful corporations. Now it has not.
Here again, foreign entities will need to take over.
