Home Interiors and Gifts was a collection of tacky decor in the '80s.

They had parties like Avon or Tupperware. Generally speaking, housewives looking to make a few dollars could host their friends and decorate the mobile home at the same time. Of course it was mostly cheap gold painted plaster, but they sold a ton to women looking for something to do after the kids left for school that also involved box wine.

By the turn of the century most of it could be found in second hand shops, garage sales, dumpsters and The Oval Office.

3. It was pretty at the time. Better than the heavy old stuff from the 40s and 50s. 🤣🤣🤣

4. Here's the difference. Gold was supposed to be a subtle accent...

Even in the 70's and 80's, too much gold and shiny bling was considered to declasse and only appropriate for a bordello or night club dance floor.

5. Regarding the picture on the top right

with the wall vases and sconce in the middle, I'd take one of the vases, I think it's pretty, but I certainly wouldn't have all three on my wall. I like gold, but I think a little goes a long way and too much is tacky. I wouldn't have any of the items in the other pictures, though.

6. I still own HomCo items even if my generation doesn't match the Home Interior phase

It wasn't all gold finishing. An abundance of the collections are quite nice.


The items still sell on Poshmark and Ebay as well.


There's still gold finishing on items such as mirrors, photo frames, serving trays in today's stores.
