Trump Is Fading and His Staff Knows It: Rothkopf The Daily Beast Podcast

May 4, 2026

David Rothkopf joins Joanna Coles to assess what he describes as a visibly weakening Trump presidency, with intelligence sources warning of mounting instability inside the White House. Rothkopf argues Trump is “fading” physically and politically as crises escalate abroad—from Iran tensions to the Strait of Hormuz—and pressure builds at home over policy, polling, and party loyalty. Rothkopf examines a strained cabinet, shifting Republican loyalties, and public fractures emerging even among Trump’s strongest allies. As figures like Marco Rubio and Pete Hegseth are pulled into increasingly exposed roles, Rothkopf asks whether the system around Trump is starting to hedge—and whether MAGA itself is entering a period of quiet unraveling.

They talked about how we all need, and may even be craving, nice thoughts and experiences to get us through these dark times. It made me think of how the government tried to lift people's spirits through the dark times of WWII. Movies and radio shows were encouraged and were provided support for bright and cheerful programming. It was propaganda of course, but a way to keep people from despairing when everything seemed to be going badly.

We need to do this for ourselves as much as we can. Go to comedy shows and movies, watch funny videos online, try to do something fun with your family. As much as I'm doom-scrolling these days, I really needed this reminder that getting too deep into the dark woods of my despair won't do anyone any good.

Also when this despicable regime is over, and it will be over, remember that none of these MAGAT goons will own up to the problems they are causing. They will try to say "not me" and deflect, they will try to say "it would have been great, except Democrats ruined it," SCREW THEM... We will need to fix things the right way despite them and their idiotic repuke nonsense. It is not worth arguing with them or giving them your energy. Call Bullshit and Carry On. Get to work to repair the damage that's been done. That is the fight before us, but it is a worthy one and every success we have will sustain us through it.
