(179,112 posts)More self-entitlement crap from the family that epitomizes self entitlement. The only benefit was restarting the Epstein conversation, though I highly doubt that was her intention. As usual, she didn't think it through.

(2,377 posts)...that when she read the word "trivial" on the teleprompter, she pronounced it with a long first "I," so it was close-captioned "tribal."
It's possible she reads even less than her husband.

(14,782 posts)It's complicated and I don't want to get the details wrong, but is involves a guy who was a modeling agent, married one of he models (who was 17 when they met and he was 32) and got the administration to deport her because she was undocumented or overstayed her visa or whatever *and* he has some minor position within the administration. So the deported model has been sending out tweets threatening to expose Melania's secrets, etc.
It starts at 15:40

(15,443 posts)into the White House, I felt compassion for Melania because I couldn't imagine being married to someone like Trump. She grew up in a hardscrabble world and did what she had to in order to survive. Or so I thought.
But she lost me when she wrote "I don't care, do you?" on the back of her jacket. A truly crass individual. Uncaring. Sociopathic. A terrible human being. Oh, as a Christian, I realize the God loves all people equally, and we are told to love our enemies, but what this actually means is NOT to be a doormat. What it means is that we must work for and wish for the enemy's highest good.
Trump, Melania, his corrupt cabinet, the billionaires that helped him cheat his way to victory, and all of the elites in the Epstein files who trafficked and raped children, the corrupt Supreme Court, Aileen Cannon, and the Republicans in the House and Senate that knew how bad this is and did nothing - all need to be held accountable, investigated, tried if they have committed crimes (and we will find evidence of many - the trick is proving it in court), and imprisoned if convicted. This is the highest good, that justice be done.
These people have ripped apart this republic and it will take decades for us to recover from the damage these wreckers have done.
Our opportunity will be to choose what we want as we rebuild. I am tired of healthcare debt. I am tired of my kids and my friends being buried under predatory student debt. I am tired of billionaires and sociopathic corporations that hold profit above human life and the earth itself.
You know, as an economist, for many years I have advanced policies that would actually help the American middle class and working classes at their kitchen tables, and one by one I have seen Wall Street financiers, the healthcare and pharma lobbies, big oil and coal, and billionaires tigthen the screws on us, taking more and more while the rest of us have less and less.
We need change. Getting it back to how it was before Trump is not good enough. We need to pull the fangs of Wall Street, change the rules of corporate governance, pack the Supreme Court, overturn Citizens United (Montana, I think, is putting something on the ballot to do just that).
We also need to remove the profit motive from healthcare because profit is in direct conflict with our interests as patients and the interests of those who provide direct care. College needs to be free. Our K-12 system needs to be the envy of the world, as does our once strong middle class. We need to subsidize childcare and make sure the food in schools is nutritious and affordable.
In order to do this, our politicians will have to forget their fear of losing office and begin doing the right thing for we the people. They need to raise taxes on corporations back to pre-Reagan levels and impose a true wealth tax on the billionaires because as AOC says, every billionare is a failure in tax policy. We need to pull the teeth of the Military Industrial Complex, who has been ruling in Washington for a long time, since LBJ was cajoled by Wall Street into sending 500,000 of our people to Nam so the 'defense' companies could try out their new death toys and make lots of money to boot.
The Vietnam war cost taxpayers $910 billion in today's dollars ($158 billion then). We lost one in ten people we had over there - in old Roman Legion terms our armed forces were 'decimated.' But what is worse, far worse, is our philosophy of attrition, measuring success by 'body count.' We KILLED 3.2 million Vietnamese people in that conflict.
We cannot forget the people brought over here in chains either, and our genocide of native Americans.
You know, Obama talked about our better angels, and perfecting the republic. It is time for us to have some courage and actually DO the right things. Not just talk about them.
Medicaid for all Americans.
Financial strength in Social Security.
A sane military budget.
Reinstating good environmental regulations.
A sane immigration policy.
All the rest...
Pope Leo has called for a worldwide prayer vigil tomorrow at noon Eastern Time.
No Kings has called for a national strike - no work, no school, no buying anything - on May 1.
I will be participating in both because it is time for me to stand up and say enough! To begin speaking out forcefully against this immoral Wall Street driven system. It does not have to be this way.
In some ways I am happy I am 67 because I won't last all that much longer, and that is good. To be incarnated here is very hard, for we can suffer spiritual, emotional, mental and physical pain, and as Tom Hanks said, everyone walks their Green Mile, and it is long.
