I shake my head! No words!!!

The largest Baptist church in Alabama has announced plans to build a 120-foot statue of President Trump on its campus as a "token of appreciation for what God has done for the United States under his leadership."

Church leaders say the monument will overlook the campus in a pose that some observers noted bears a striking resemblance to the famous Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro. When asked about the similarity, one of the church board members clarified the difference:

"That statue in Brazil is an idol, this is simply a respectful tribute to the greatest leader in all of world history, who just happens to have been divinely chosen."

Plans reportedly include a viewing platform at the base of the statue, a gift shop selling commemorative hats and devotional coffee mugs, and nightly lighting so the statue can be seen from several counties away.

The lead pastor emphasized that the project is not meant to replace worship to God but rather to
"encourage gratitude towards God, and of course patriotism, and the occasional selfie."

Construction is expected to begin once enough donations are collected, which organizers say should happen quickly since "patriotic generosity is practically a spiritual gift around here."

Church leaders added that anyone comparing the monument to a golden calf is "missing the point entirely," noting that the statue will be made of reinforced concrete, not gold.

I have heard fundies justify their belief that Trump is divinely chosen, despite his sordid relationships with women, because even King David sent a man to the front in a war in order to kill him and take his wife.

I like to point out to them that King David repented, according to the story, and accepted the death of his son from that wife as punishment. But Trump has said in interviews that he has never felt a need to repent anything.

Have they already fed all the hungry, clothed all those in need, sheltered all the homeless, comforted all the sick and dying, and visited all those held by various authorities, as Jesus told them to do? If they have all these resources to waste on a statue maybe they should re-examine their priorities.

the pastor, though supposedly quoted, is also unnamed. Real news is not written this way.

My immediate thought was please please please don't let it be near here. AL's three largest Baptist churches are all in the B'ham area (of course) but the fourth largest is just "downtown" -- turns out it got to be third largest by having two different locations, which I consider cheating.

Fortunately, it all turned out to be a joke. But it may have given some people ideas.

And the fact that it hasn't been locked as fake news or at least forced the change of presentation to SATIRE, why is this kind of stuff allowed at DU?

People are leaving DU because they can't trust certain posters who constantly post fake/AI posts or they post something they think is real and when informed it is fake, they won't change it.

Sounds like propaganda.

It really is that simple.

EDIT: Seems to be satire, but I stand by what I said. He is god to his idiot supporters and they do worship him.

This is not the first time someone has asked you to delete your thread or change the title to reflect that this is a satire post. A Fake post.

It is not reality. There is no church in Alabama building a statue of Chump. So you want to make people hate all Alabamians?

There are DU members who live in Alabama who are Democrats!

What fuckin state do YOU live in?
