Consumption of goods would slow dramatically for years.

how great America was at the time.

His floating that was a huge indicator that he has no idea how any of the economic stuff works.
Total imports were about $4.3 trillion last year. In order to supplant taxes, there would have to be ac150% tariff on everything imported, which would be an economic catastrophe.
