As someone who has had a lot of teeth trouble lately, it’s hard to get treatment before extraction. The extractions by oral surgeons are usually covered by Medicaid. It’s so hard to find competent dentists who take Medicaid. Dentistry is one of the most overlooked elements of our health system.

He thought he had a bad case of the flu, however the infection got into his blood (sepsis) and he ended spending 5 days in the ICU. It affected his liver, kidney and brain however he made a strong recovery because of immediate action by medical personnel.

Three incidences* of an abscessed tooth, it is so painful that all I could do was hold my head and rock back and forth, I can see where it is one of the most painful ways to go. I can't imagine what that poor man went through before he passed.

*I was homeless at the time and was, at least, able to get antibiotics. I was not able to get the dental correction I needed because I need to be sedated and there were no dentists in my state who used the kind of anesthesia that I can have. Eventually, after over a year and half, I inherited some money and was able to go to my former dentist in another state who uses an anesthesia that I can have, to have the root canal under a crown that was required to remedy the problem.

A professional colleague of mine had a sinus infection in 1984 that went into his brain and killed him (two strokes in rapid succession) three months after my sinus surgery. Man, I learned never to ignore possible infections anywhere in my jaws after that.
