(5,073 posts)Could someone explain to me - the threat that Iran poses to me? Not the threat that it poses to Israel (cause honestly, I dont care), but to the U.S.?
Melon
(1,399 posts)That wake there military up with the chant death to America, death to Israel. They have repeatedly enriched uranium past any industrial use towards the end goal of making a nuclear weapons. Combine nuclear weapon with a mantra of life to kill Americans. If you cant piece that puzzle together I cant help you. Once they have a weapon there is no stopping them.
We are now in, so be sure and finish it.

(15,464 posts)I know of no Iranian forces that have engaged Americans directly with the possible exception of the Qud Forces. The attack on Erbil is an example of how those motherfuckers operate; sucks to be them that they engaged our pipe hitters that day.

(6,859 posts)have said about us. Including Iran when we overthrew their Prime Minister. We had a peace deal with Iran thanks to Obama. And it was working. Who dismantled that? We did.

(1,399 posts)Change the mentality. It also likely didnt change the outcome one.
They were still hiding production. Denying inspections. The teachings of the Imans and the Supreme Leader was the same. The agreement said that their production is checked routinely by an assign agency, not because its a great deal, but because we didnt trust them.
Im jaded because I worked in the region. Everyone I interacted with did not like or trust Iran. They wanted some kind of military intervention and those conversations were 10 years ago. Oman only had relations with them at the time, but the Omanis didnt trust them either. There government are religious fanatics and will gladly kill you with the belief they will go to paradise.
This war is bringing the rest of the Middle East including Israel together. You cannot like our government but support an action. My view is if we are in with a toe, we need to completed stop the threat forever.

(1,399 posts)But once again I can support an action.
The top guys we see on tv are Trump. They make the final decision. But there are hundreds of individuals
and consultants..that I am positive of
that have been the same across administrations. The same guys under worked under Biden putting together tactics and analysis. Its a mistake to think the US does anything without a plan. And there are 5 and 10 year scenarios constantly updated about risks to the country.

(2,308 posts)Trump et al could have gone through the legal process, but they didn't, because there is no justification for it.
Even they can't agree on why they supposedly started a war.

(1,549 posts)Youre basically giving the same rationale as Fetterman. Fuck this nonsense.
We heard this shit with Iraq.
You dont support Trump but you support this action just because plans.
Suit up or send your kids to go die over there.

(1,399 posts)I know you want every Democratic voter to be the same. But Id say we are a spectrum. Ive posted on here regarding some of my background. I assume unlike yourself, Ive spent considerable time in the Middle East and count as my contacts high level officials in government and business in the region. Ill be on the phone with contacts in Oman late tonight touching base. You go with your basis in life and Ill go with mine.

(1,549 posts)Most of us here dont want to get involved in another endless war in that god forsaken region.
You still didnt address anything. More bulllshit about your background. Not sure is that supposed to impress us?
If this is the spectrum for this party, then this country is FUCKED. We have no opposition party then.
Adios.
And fuck Fetterman.

(1,399 posts)I really do t care about your view. It sounds like just opposite of anything the republicans do. Which requires zero thought and should be easy for you.
Im not running for office. Im a voter and registered Democrat. You hate that theres anything but the extremes in parties thats on you. I wasnt asked to go to war with Iran. We are there so it should be finished. Thats my opinion. Im not the only one hy the way.

(9,928 posts)Almost 3x the population? Can you explain how you think we will win that? Not that its not possible but I want to hear how you think it would happen.

(887 posts)This is fucking ludicrous. You want 100,000s of US troops on the ground in Iran. You going to join up?
Melon
(1,399 posts)But I come from a military family. I dont take it lightly . I consider finishing this now, while Iran is weak, will be less costly than allowing them to rebuild their weapons stockpiles. Pay now or pay later. As Ive said, we are there so dont leave it half done.
SamuelTheThird
(887 posts)By your 'logic', you must have supported the Iraq war as well
Melon
(1,399 posts)I think it it hurts China economically a levels the manufacturing economies.
And it cuts off a major supplier of drones to Russia.
As Ive said, I support finishing what we start.
SamuelTheThird
(887 posts)You expect drunken Hegseth to direct a massive boots on the ground effort. And what about rebuilding?
Russia is manufacturing their own drones.
Are you proposing we take over Iran and refuse to sell oil to China?
You don't run your war policy on cliches, and that's all 'finish what we start' adds to this. No real thought there.
fujiyamasan
(1,549 posts)Enough grandstanding!
Were in with a toe ILLEGALLY - what the hell? Nobody trusts Iran? And who trusts us now? Do you understand the damage we have done? Does killing innocent Iranians matter at all?

(3,660 posts)N Korea's leadership is BATSHIT CRAZIER than Irans and N Korea tells its people death to America EVERY FUCKING DAY!!. Dirty bombs are not hard to make and you could use energy grade uranium to make one. Iran is surrounded by extremely unstable failed states and a bunch of billionaire kings that want to keep their hands clean with the clerics and are sending OUR KIDS TO DIE FOR THEM!! We just let Iran fail even more and there WILL be even crazier radicals move in and challenge them now potentially putting, at a minimum, energy grade uranium in some crazy fucking Mullah's hands. We couldn't straighten Iraq out which is 1/3rd the size of Iran, TO THIS DAY!
The day I see a member of any of the billionaire kings countries put THEIR OWN FUCKING BOOTS on the ground to help will be NEVER!! Do you know why? We claim to want Iran to be a democracy, come on you Iranians, help yourselves. Those fucking monarchies will NEVER allow an Arab Democracy. That spells trouble for their slave owning woman oppressing asses.
Hold THEM responsible. Tell THEM no more F35s unless you put your crazy neighbor in its place. Not one of those billionaire monarchies has done a FUCKING THING for us!!
Who did the largest terrorist attack to the US in it's history? Oh yeah. NOT IRANIANS.
Melon
(1,399 posts)Attacking North Korea now creates significant risk to the US. They have a large nuclear arsenal with advanced delivery technology. They pose a significant regional threat with conventional arms to South Korea and Seoul in particular. It would also cause significant regional instability and are within easy arms reach of their largest ally China. There is no comparison. North Korea and their nuclear threat is the best example of why we should take action prior to nuclear development in Iran. North Korea also has a reputation as a Hermit Kingdom if left alone and doesnt have a religious mandate to kill Americans.
Intractable
(1,930 posts)Perhaps. But, the North Korean gov't can be substantially influenced by Putin.

(6,859 posts)Have we received any evidence that we were under threat? No. Trump unilaterally went to war when it's Congress' role to declare war. Just because we despise a leader doesn't give us the right to assassinate him. We are a rogue nation.

(21,124 posts)We've learned this over and over and over - even if you drop nukes - a war will not end.
A peace, brokered honestly with the rest of the world supporting, and Netanyahu in jail, is our only hope in the Middle East
