You may well be right, but theres so many effing ways that this can go off the rails, it doesnt seem to me like anything but poking a hornets nest out of spite.

Then there's the danger of spasmodic outbreaks of reprisals or opportunist attacks in the wake of the major conflict, which could go on for many years.
