Gavin Newsom concedes to Ben Sharpio

In his latest podcast, Gov Newsom concedes to Ben Shapiro and walks back his office's post that that called ICE state-sponsored terrorism and agreed that if states just cooperate with ICE it would better for everyone.

“Your press office tweeted out that it was state-sponsored terrorism, which, I mean governor, I just have to ask you about that. That sort of thing makes our politics worse, and it does,” said Shapiro, to which Newsom responded, “Yeah.”

Where he concedes that cooperate with ICE:
He (Shapiro) questioned, “Wouldn’t best policy be to cooperate with ICE in the vast majority of cases so instead of ICE going to, as you say, churches and hospitals to pick people up, they’d be going to jailhouses?” “That’s exactly what they do in California. I mean, we have over 10,000 that I’ve cooperated with since I’ve been governor of California,” claimed Newsom. “We work very directly with ICE as it relates to CDCR state prison. California has cooperated with more ICE transfers probably than any other state in the country, and I have vetoed multiple pieces of legislation that have come from my legislature to stop the ability for the state of California to do that.”

This on the heels of his push to ensure there are no taxes on billionaires in California, is not a good look and not where the majority of people seem to be at when it comes to things like this.

I am honestly shocked. I wanted to believe that Newsom could be the one, I really did but I just don't think he is our candidate in 2028.

P.S.
Platforming people like Shapiro is absolutely gross and absolutely unnecessary.

It's that in the last couple weeks he has come out against taxing billionaires and and conceding to people like Ben Sharpio and walking back valid criticism of ICE. He literally all but says that it would be better to just cooperate with ICE. How is that being "anti-newson" when I'm just stating his own words?

Nobody is perfect, and we shouldn't mistake trolling Trump on the Internet as inherently being the best potential candidate in 2028.

Ben Sharpio is a serious scumbag that has repeatedly said anti LGBTQ and misogynistic things and is in general an idiot, bending the knee to this guy?
If you cannot hold your own against Ben fucking Sharpio then how can I trust you to hold your own against Putin or worse?

More agreeing that not ALL of ICE is state sponsored terrorism, and that it would be better to simply work with them normally, status quo. What he didn't seem to walk back is that nazi fucks kicking in doors and shooting folks in the face was in fact state sponsored terrorism.

Folks that get their "news" from Yahoo/Mediaite probably just, you know, shouldn't. (see, that's a generalized statement, which I'd gladly stipulate that there are times that Yahoo/Mediaite may very well have a decent bit of "news" reported on their site, but doesn't walk back the context of the statement, as an example) Not sure Charlie Nash is putting things necessarily in a proper perspective from time to time.

That said, I didn't watch the video, just read the article. Maybe he does walk it all back and don a klan hood like some would suggest actually happened. And if I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

He’s trying to manifest some kind of Clintonian triangulation to appeal to Trump voters, or voters who only get their news from social media and such.

Glad he’s doing it now, before the primaries ramp up, so the Dem rank and file voters can see him without any illusions.

BTW, it’s Shapiro, not “Sharpio”.

What I find so interesting is that when anyone receives a bit of notoriety, the first thing is, oh, they should be president. Kelly is a good senator. I hope he keeps working and evolving on the needs of the American people.

attack by Trump but ICE existed before Trump and there were procedures. It’s disingenuous and contrived word play to insinuate Newsom is giving in to anything when he is discussing established procedure.

It's what he didn't say in response to Shapiro's conjecture.
Shapiro stated this:

He questioned, “Wouldn’t best policy be to cooperate with ICE in the vast majority of cases so instead of ICE going to, as you say, churches and hospitals to pick people up, they’d be going to jailhouses?”

The correct response here is:
"ICE's own data states that over 80% of those detained by ICE have no criminal record and pose no risk to society. If the goal is to do citizenship the right way why did ICE recently grab people that were literally going to their citizenship ceremony? Why do they profile people based on skin color, accent or language they are speaking? Why are they grabbing people off the street with no warrant or probable cause?"

That is how you respond to people like Shapiro. Not :
“That’s exactly what they do in California.

Count me out. His trolling of Trump has been pretty epic and he has made some great decisions and fought hard where his state and his political party is attacked, but hobnobbing with some people just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The billionaire thing is a serious problem too. The Democratic Party is not facing Republicans in 1987, this is a new group of radicals and playing footsie with them is no longer an option.

They LEGITIMATELY want to kill us. And they're literally pulling the King George trope of "I will send a fully armed batallion to remind you of my love" bullshit. We can't deal with these psychopaths by playing nice with them on podcasts. They need to be shunned from society, everywhere.

At least I fervently hope he isn’t. I’ll be pissed if I’m forced to vote for him lol.

Pritzker’s looking better and better. Hochul’s stepping up. I’d have loved to vote for Walz but he’s taken himself off the board. A damn shame.

I am loving the activism of some of the Dem senators like Van Hollen. Mayor Jacob Frey is damn impressive - more of him please.

I’m growing more convinced any Dem nominee needs to vow to bring these monsters to justice and have the chops to begin to restore international alliances.
