at some point we're gonna have to have a real conversation about why we're still paying federal taxes to a regime that isn't using them to help anyone, but instead is using them to brutalize us

Trump is being useful.
He is giving us a detailed outline of every way in which the office of the president must be curtailed.
Assuming, of course, that we are able to crawl out from under the authoritarian jackboot under which we find ourselves.

If you don’t think this goes back to George Floyd, you don’t understand Miller manipulating Trump. They both know 2020 sunk Trump.

Federal officers are leaving Louisiana immigration crackdown for Minneapolis, documents show

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Federal immigration officers are pulling out of a Louisiana crackdown and heading to Minneapolis in an abrupt pivot from an operation that drew protests around New Orleans and aimed to make thousands of arrests, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press.

The shift appeared to signal a wind-down of the Louisiana deployment that was dubbed “Catahoula Crunch” and began in December with the arrival of more than 200 officers. The operation had been expected to last into February and swiftly raised fears in immigrant communities.

The Trump administration has been surging thousands of federal officers to Minnesota under a sweeping new crackdown tied in part to allegations of fraud involving Somali residents. More than 2,000 officers are taking part in what the Department of Homeland Security has called the biggest immigration enforcement operation ever.

For some reason, his perfectly appropriate funeral sent everyone on the right around the bend. The propaganda was exhausting. I remember a guy in our book club (Democrat) saying, "I knew that funeral was going to be a problem". I asked him if he'd even watched it (it was on C-SPAN) and he said no! Even he was buying into the false narrative.

His funeral was a private, religious service. What sent Republicans over the edge was a public memorial to the public man. They weren't really surprised it was political, that was just a hook the right wing noise machine could hang their faux outrage on.

As Tom Harkin told us that night, "Stand up, keep fighting. "

There aren't enough farmers to affect electoral politics. They vote the way most business owners do - they skew Republican. Here it is 55-45 Republican, and even in this heavily agricultural district farm owners are only a couple of percentage points of the population. They are not the reason Trump won here, not by a long shot.

Farmers are a tiny, tiny percentage of the population. As Democrats we need to stop talking as though they are the critical rural bloc, or even important at all. They are not.

It is a bad look for us. It advances the right wing framing about partisan demographics. The MAGA cultists are NOT farmers, ranchers, cowboys, lumberjacks, et al. they are weak, whiny, cowardly Walter Mittys.

Can't people read? Someone else accused me of defending Republicans. WTF? I didn't say farmers aren't important, I said there aren't enough of them to affect elections, and it makes us - as Democrats - look ignorant to be harping on about farmers. It reinforces the right wing framing on the issue.
