National Weather Service Bulletins

aren't even reliable under this administration. Today a servere thunderstorm warning was wrongly issued for a number of Western NY counties.

A local weather man, who is very knowledgeable at his job, posted on his personal Facebook page that the wind advisories for the area were correct, but the thunderstorm warnings weren't accurate, and no thunderstorms were expected in the area.

TSF has messed up everything.

rich people can afford to be ready. And more millionaires will be made as everyone has to subscribe to weather content and poor people who cannot afford it try to afford it. Why else would he debase weather forecasts?

I (and I know BDRS and a few others) are weather nerds on here. I read the weather discussions from the NWS religiously several times a day. I am increasingly seeing very obvious ChatGPT or some other LLM being used to write the weather discussions because they often make no sense at all. To the extent that warning criteria for storms etc are being made automatically by AI from the collected weather data (mainly radar) I can't say but in the weather forums i hang out in there are NWS forecasters and they have said that warning issuance in smaller offices when they are unmanned, overnight, weekends, holidays etc. is being more and more automated as the surrounding offices that are manned are increasingly understaffed and a person may not get on top of it in time.

The bottom line is, due to the drastic cuts and closings that have been made there are times where human interaction with warning system may be delayed. The process thinking is better off to get a warni9ng out there on a borderline scenario than nothing at all. It all sucks and it ALL comes form these assholes cutting the organizations protecting us because THEY DONT CARE!!

They are trying to "allow" a whole lot of people to be uninformed, thus die because danger is on the way and they got no information.

Welcome to 1885.

I guess this wasn't an accident, considering it was NewYork.......

Trump will personally want to take over forecasting hurricanes, I can see him now, with a magic marker in front of a state map.....
like he has done before.......

There is nothing reliable. They'll tell us it's raining hard and we walk outside to sunshine and no rain ever comes. They'll tell us it's sunshine and we are getting a rainstorm.

Wind has been getting worse due to climate change. Predictions for whether it will freeze or not are laughable. I have an animal sanctuary and not knowing what to expect can be a challenge.

The winds have been awful here too. We only had one tornado hit in a town nearby after Hurricane Agnes in 1972.

Now almost every summer for the past 4 years, we get tornado warnings 2 or 3 times.

It was near 80 today and will be near freezing by Sunday morning. The drastic changes create their own hurdles.

There is a heated building for the animals (cats), but some refuse to go inside. They have a covered catio and I have electric blankets in there. Then they have a large open area that is basically a big kennel with a top on it. I have tarps wherever I can stick one but the winds wreak havoc.

Everyday is a total reset almost.

I know we sound like real wimps down here because our temps don't get anywhere near as cold as some northern states. But the animals still have to acclimate. Grateful to have as much as I do have for them!!! I always say prayers for the strays that don't have what mine have. Breaks my heart.
