Once a year I get an in-home health assessment, and I just completed the one for 2026. Starts with the basics, BP and other vitals, then proceeds to medications overview and discussions of health maintenance and working up a calendar of necessary physician visits.
This year, the visit was administered by a no-nonsense nurse practitioner with many years of experience. I told her that I appreciate the nursing profession and that I am disgusted by the presidents intent to render nursing students unqualified for student loans. With that, she sensed an open door for conversation, and we talked about many issues as the evaluation continued. In particular, she is livid about whats happening with vaccinations and said shes so glad her kids were born before idiocy became policy.
As she was packing up her kit, she said that this is the first time shes been afraid for herself and her children. Im African, Im Muslim, and Im a woman, and as she said that she turned and saw my Shepard Fairey poster from the Womens March. She paused, then smiled and said that now more than ever shes looking forward to voting. I told her that if anyone gives her any trouble she knows where to find me. She nodded, then headed out the door, holding the bumper sticker I gave her.
By the way, I successfully drew the clock and remembered the list of words. But I aint moving into the White House until it has been well and thoroughly smudged.
