Update on my Immigrant friend
My friend — a Venezuelan asylum applicant — is now trying to get a work permit. I really want to again help her financially but it’s a struggle as I have a family also in financial need. And I still don’t want to compromise what small privacy I have by opening a GoFundMe. But I know she desperately needs a little more help. She’s been gone about three weeks now after staying with me a week. I helped her get to another state where she had a contact and thought she could get work but she has barely been able to get more than 3 days a week.
July 22 Trump’s Kill Bill upped the fee for work permits from zero to an astronomical $550.
It almost forces people to do something illegal and entrap themselves just to try to get money to stay here and work.
I’m just sharing this because of its far reaching impact. And I’m sharing in case anybody has suggestions on how to help my friend who I have come to love.
