Some straight talk from Adam Smith (D) on CNN this morning

I wish more politicians would frame the NG in DC issue this way. He said "Look, it's pretty clear the president wants his own domestic police force and step by step he's trying to create it. We should be deeply alarmed by that regardless of how you feel about crime in DC or any other city...it's a huge step toward an autocratic government."

That's what's getting lost here in all the other coverage I think. It's a huge step toward an autocratic government. And if, as Adam Smith says, the president wants his own domestic police force, WHAT DO YOU THINK HE WILL DO WITH IT? I can tell you one thing. By the time we figure it out, it will be too late.

is missing the forest for the trees. We need to keep stating the bottom line here which is the danger. I think Smith did that in this interview so good for him.

One problem is that many trump supporters want exactly that, an autocratic form of government.

Another problem is that it is the kind of abstract argument that voters zone out on. The 'average' voter in America hear that argument and go, "What the fuck you talking about?"

We need to keep shouting from the rooftops before we lose the ability to make the argument at all.

even if it's the exact opposite of what he said five minutes ago. I don't care about them. We need to make sure the independents and of course all of the Dems understand the threat.
