National Guard members of Reddit, what do you think of Trumps DC deployment announcement? What is the general vibe amongst your peers?
I guarantee you plenty aren't happy. NG is locals--they don't want to be called away from their 9-5s for this because they're going to be expected to be assholes to their own neighbors.
Also there was a lot of paperwork and pay issues when the Guard got sent to LA. It would not shock me if we get a repeat of that. Any commander worth his salt isn't going to send his people in again for the President if there's pay fuck ups.
I'll tell you who you really need to start worrying about--
There's a lot of policy about exactly what the military can and cannot do on US soil against US citizens. And yeah, we might start to see those lines crossed, but I think it'll still be a bit yet. And I dunno that there's enough blind devotion at the middle-management level, and you'll probably see at least a few proud officers who remember their oath is to the Constitution and not one man. The vast majority of officers have at least their bachelor's and plenty of them did it at public universities, and plenty of them still retain critical thinking skills and are already concerned about the state of things. I've seen rumors Pritzker put the IL guard on standby due to the number of Texas House Reps who are holding up Quorum. These conversations at the Guard level are happening and they're not as blindly devoted to Trump as you might fear--
The point is, it'll be a while still before we risk seeing actual mass martial law orchestrated through the military.
You know who doesn't have those rules? Federal agencies. FBI, ATF, but most importantly now is ICE, since they've got a 400% budget increase. If we start to see real militarized violence against citizens, it's going to be Federal agencies leading the charge.
Honestly I think they picked the wrong country to try and do this in
The ones who will loyally shoot citizens on command can barely run 5 ft without getting winded. The leadership are incompetent, pampered rich cowards with no actual real world skills and theyre insufferable cunts. They also keep forgetting to do everything in their power to keep the military they keep deploying feeling like they have their backs. In LA they were sent and left there with no resources or a place to even sleep
Imagine that, rich know nothings know nothing and care about no one but themselves. Hard to maintain loyalty when you shit on the people who are supposed to be your goons, too.
The whole things a clown show and all the chest puffing always ends up being laughable when they actually try to execute. They keep getting cucked by protestors and blue state governors because they know they dont have unlimited authority no matter how loudly they insist on it. The system isnt grinding to a halt for Donny shitspurs and hes getting frustrated with it - especially with the Epstein shit hovering over his head like the sword of damacles.
Hes desperate and I really hope his frantic flailing ends up being his downfall finally
We need to either expose the excessive cheating that went down or manage to last till midterms and steamroll the regime with a well placed blue wave. I have a feeling people will be extra diligent about any tomfuckery they attempt
Real question is how far can they get at vote suppression when everyones ready for it and watching this time? I feel like everyones gonna be awake this time around

(8,366 posts)Much as I fear the people pulling Trump's strings, I cling to hope that US troops, like the Soviet Army guys a few years back, won't fire on their mothers and grandmothers.
Trump should take a hard look at how his hero Putin lives in earned paranoid fear of being taken down. That's his future and he knows it somewhere in that sick mind of his.

(3,790 posts)That would take research and reflection
Trump has created a situation that requires he stay in power to stay out of jail, as well as not lose face
He will never blame himself or give in to regret. He has to believe he is right.
This means he will never learn.

(22,240 posts)Absolutely right. He literally is not capable of such things. He's an emotionally and intellectually stunted man who is controlled by his severe personality disorders and will never know what it means to take responsibility for his own actions.
It would be very sad if he wasn't in a position to harm millions of people.

(2,155 posts)Do you think the trumpist fascists installed in important nodes of the command structure wouldn't make an example of soldiers who decline illegal orders?
Because if they are getting away with claims that there is an "invasion" or other sort of militarized emergency situation, I would think that consequences for disobedience would fall under those guidelines as well.
(And yes, I realize that some NG members were reassigned upon expressing discomfort with the LA deployment. But that seems like an initial trial run, so the regime gets its legal buzzwords down pat.)

(3,790 posts)They are our only hope. We need to support them. We are losing enough of the good ones as it it.

(10,110 posts)DC residents didn't then, and don't now, buy Trump's bullshit when it comes to crime.

(16,699 posts)I doubt it is 100% against it. Maybe it is 99% against and 1 % for. I just asked if there was one out there. I guess nobody cares
I don't live there, so my opinion doesn't matter.

(22,240 posts)I don't nsed a poll to tell me what most DC residents think of this. I'm sure they're about as enthused as LA residents were when the Guard was deployed there.
MadameButterfly
(3,790 posts)or that DC residents might think so?
Sorry, I can't answer for them, just logic tells me...

(1,839 posts)Is this kind of rhetoric going on during the next election. If Trump feels threatened enough he'll declare some sort of bogus "national voter fraud emergency" and deploy heavily armed National Guard troops to menace and intimidate voters at polling places in basically every district that is represented by Democrats. Just their presence will be enough to drive voting down in those areas, even more of their ordered to hassle voters by demanding ID and perform invasive searches. This is how they're going to steal the next election.

(11,764 posts)The federal people are out there right now happily beating on innocent people. Military won't be any different.
Anyone that thinks the federal people and the NG or regular military won't do exactly as they are told to fire on unarmed Americans is living in a fantasy world. They absolutely will do it and enjoy it.

(13,252 posts)Several cities are in red states, with number 1 being Memphis, Tennessee. Reporters should be quoting these statistics and asking Trump when he will take over Memphis, St. Louis, Birmingham, Kansas City, Little Rock, New Orleans, Dayton, Richmond, Nashville, Miami, Atlanta, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Tulsa, and Louisvilleall in deep red states and all with higher crime rates than DC.

(19,347 posts)with a 700,000 population, then that is more than a town with 1,000 and 50 murders.
It is the same when they talk about tax rates and how the rich are paying too much. When they pay $50,000 on earnings of 1 billion and a person who earns $50,000 and only has to pay $7,000.
I hear that crap all the time..
