More Bernie / less Gerrymandering.

I just read an article in The Guardian (online) arguing that a gerrymandering contest would be a bad idea. The author offered several good reasons that made sense.

So what is the alternative? I say it is a focus on what people need rather than fund raising and finding an effective "message".
Remember, dollars are not votes. A corporation is not a person. Money is not protected speech. (In spite of the heavily corrupted Heritage Foundation owned Supreme Court.)

Sanders takes things a little too far, which is very unfortunate, but there are critically important changes he proposes that would absolutely make a difference in peoples' lives. Examples:
Medicare for all. Yes!
Free college for all? Not so much. This borders on nonsense.
Financial aid and low interest loans for college. Yes.
Support for affordable housing. Yes!

There are other issues not heavily focused on by Bernie such as climate survival.

And what about the national debt?
Bernie has proposed tiny fees attached to stock trades. Because there are large numbers of stocks traded lots of money could be raised from the world of big money rather than taxing modest income workers. Of course, the big money community opposes this. (Where does Schumer come down on this idea??)

There are Democrats (or trolls) who blab that Bernie refuses to be a Democrat. Party above good is what Republicans do. Democrats should not do that. Do what is good for people. I thing they (we) might like that.

Bernie Sanders accuses Harris of being 'influenced' by billionaires in 2024 race

I’m glad you like him but I’m tired of his toxicity.

Every time Democrats have problems he falsely shits on them. To say Harris was ‘influenced’ by Billionaires and all the insinuation that implies is hot garbage. Enough is enough.

But calling Bernie a liar seems a bit overboard. I'm not sure what to say when I see these arguments on DU that, "we support Democrats, period."
I support Democracy and so does Bernie. He resonates across party lines and is for "The People".
I'm an American who wants the Constitution to be our guiding principle. I guess, I'm open to the best leader, not only the best Democrat.

Claiming VP Harris and other Democrats “abandoned the working class” is garbage. It isn’t true - we’ve gone from the most pro-union administration to a GOP admin that eats union members for lunch.

The only way Bernie ‘resonates’ across party lines these days is for those gleeful MAGA Republicans who appreciate his help shitting on good Democrats. He’s great for them.

I supported him in primary 2016, but enough is enough. The last straw for me is when he called Planned Parenthood ‘establishment’ on the Rachel Maddow show. GARBAGE. Now look where we are w Reproductive Rights.

Again I’m glad yr enamored with him, but IMHO he’s been very destructive and toxic since the election.

But Bernie isn't going to run again. I wish for all who want Kamala to have another shot, that she would get out and do what Bernie is doing. Whoever that believes we will have another election and thinks they can satisfy the youth vote, they should be doing what Bernie is doing.
I don't think we can blame Bernie for any hard times our reproductive rights have experienced.
My wish is that our primary votes are taken seriously and those with power trust Our instincts. My fear is that America won't survive this time around with the evil one. Let's all work with each other and try to save this damn Democracy, and democracies the world over.

differences, we need to forgo the infighting and figure out how the hell we are going to fight off this tsunami of presidential signing statements and wholesale destruction of our democracy. We are up to our chins in hot water. We are IN a dictatorship.

I don't see anybody rushing to save us. Let's at least focus on the real enemy, get busy and work together.

legislature. We couldn't manage 57% when we were running against a nazi worshipping, porn addict, who had no apparent qualifications. If we don't solve gerrymandering in NC we will never had a Democratic legislature here again. I don't care what we campaign on we aren't going to get 57% of the vote.

Roe V Wade was overturned, Citizens United and health care is being stripped away from poor people. You need the Congress to do any of that stuff so if anything Democrats should've been gerrymandering to counter republicans a lot sooner. They have a responsibility to their constituents above maintaining procedural norms especially when the opposition doesn't respect those norms.

I'm tired of fake left wingers and fence straddlers using Bernie as a crutch. They either tell you the lie both sides are the same or even voted for Trump, but as long they tell you they like Bernie they think everything is okay.

by at least TRYING to match GOP gerrymandering with likewise (if for no other reason than it might sober up those maga controlled states that will surely move to do what Texas has done, seeing as how they're apparently going to have it their way),

AND by getting behind whichever Democratic or left leaning candidate that will generate the most enthusiasm. (Which at this point, seems difficult seeing as how there are those who are quick to shoot down whomever does so, and for various reasons.) There is no perfect candidate for all. Just the one best able to get the job DONE.
