I know the jobs report story has been covered here in a number of posts. Here's another take on it:
Donald Trump Just Delivered The Worst Three Months Of Job Growth Since The Pandemic - MSN
Worst since the pandemic. That's pretty sad, I think.
In fact, May, June and July may have been the worst three months of job growth since the coronavirus pandemic, federal data shows.
Between February and July, the U.S. economy in Trumps second term added 486,000 jobs compared to the 1.05 million created from August 2024 through January, according to a HuffPost analysis of data from the Labor Department. That comes out to an average of 175,000 jobs per month under Biden and just 81,000 under Trump.
Trump was apparently so incensed by the numbers that he (fired) the employee responsible for the office that produces them, accusing her, without any evidence, of faking the numbers in favor of Biden and his vice president, Kamala Harris, and against him.

(4,923 posts)No, I'd rather not after I got tossed off Medicaid or was fired from a decent job in the Fed government.
Trump et. al. are too stupid to have started with building a manufacturing/living wage support system first and just launches into tariffs without any mechanism to contain the fallout or direct more business to US companies. They think tariffs will do that work for them by some sort of only makes sense in Repug minds magic. Instead it makes business and investors LESS likely to go take a risk to commit capital and build something new, bigger, better because who knows what damage the next Exec Order will bring. On top of that, Trump thinks he can threaten countries he tariffs to not retaliate. And maybe by what others put on paper or in policy he can pull that off but as we are seeing from Canada and the EU, selling that Next Gen fighter built in the US or anything else all of sudden hits headwinds or is an automatic NO WAY. We manufacture very little that folks HAVE to buy only from us.

(96,131 posts)I just read here about the 3 Kentucy distilleries that shut down, huge job losses, it's the tariffs and Canda's boycott. All of this happened because of him. More to come, farms at risk with no workers (TSF). Tourism down=loss of jobs (TSF)...much more.

(23,710 posts)We'll get a couple more months of legit numbers, then when Trump's new pick starts tampering, there will be mass resignations at the BLS. The media will document it and pay attention for a few months to tell the public what's really going on, but then by next year, they'll forget it and the new fake BLS numbers will just be accepted.
I don't think people are talking about the real impacts of this enough. These numbers are triggers for all sorts of policy and safeguards for workers and retirees. Social Security COLA is based on this data. Unemployment length and enhancements are based on these numbers. Fed policy is based on these numbers. There are hundreds of things base don these numbers. If they are fake, the economy goes into chaos and a depression happens.
