American farmers are facing the worst times to decades. Remember, they voted for Trump by a 70% to 30% margin.
Boyd has been farming since the early 1980s, currently growing soybeans, corn and wheat across 1,500 acres in Virginia while raising 150 head of beef cattle. He told Newsweek that 2025 marked the first time in his career that he was unable to receive an operating loan, which provides farmers working capital needed to cover daily expenses, and blamed this on the trade policies of the current administration.
"I was turned down by banks for the simple fact of low commodity prices due to the president's tariffs," he said.
The higher costs for foreign importers have dampened foreign demand, leading to further reductions in the price of America's agricultural exports. Corn futures, as an example, have fallen about 15 percent since the start of the year, according to Trading Economics.

(1,664 posts)After what he did to the family owned farms in his first term with the Soybeans, they should have been forewarned............
I guess the ones that didn't get bought out by large corporate farms for pennies on the dollar, got Trump subsidies.
Sadly, they are so foolish, they think that will continue in the future because they think Trump is an honorable guy and will always do what is right, despite all evidence to the contrary....

(7,283 posts)They vote for Trump because they are generally lazy and don't actually believe in markets. They want hand-outs from the federal government.

(17,019 posts)A Black farmers group endorsed Harris. That could give her a serious boost in rural areas.
The National Black Farmers Association endorsed the vice president's campaign, boosting her rural outreach with a potentially powerful voting bloc.

(866 posts)I mean, there is a reason people are sour on small farmers. They vote against their interests repeatedly, and it hurts all of us. Then they come out complaining they don't have their normal welfare checks coming like we are supposed to care? All of this after most of these people were given this land, for free, by the american goverment generations ago. They are completely tone deaf that they are only in business because they were given things, for free, from the government, and tax payers.

(3,011 posts)I stated that farmers voted 70% to 30% for Trump. You're in the 30%.
I know how it feels to be in the 30%. I'm a 72-year-old, white heterosexual married male. That demographic is in the Trump wheelhouse. Farmers are also a Trump demographic. No demographic is 100%. But it's hard to deny that the rural areas that are more heavily populated by small farms and ranches supported Trump in 2 to 1 and 3 to 1 margins

(17,420 posts)*The only farmer quoted in the article is Boyd, who was a very public supporter of Harris.
*The article says the federal help is going to help Big farms and Southern farms gee, wonder why? not the independent farmers.
So the man that youre saying womp womp is probably being punished for being a Harris-supporting independent black farmer, as opposed to a corporate greed hand thats probably getting all kinds of help and your reaction is to pile on?
Nice to kick a comrade when he is down, eh.
