It's a reduction from 145% to 30% on nearly all goods imported from China, which means it's a 30% sales tax on all of those goods when the end user consumers buy them. So, in the simplest terms, your product that was $100 now costs $130.
And where do you think the money collected at the point of transfer goes?
Why, bless their fucking hearts, the billionaire tax cuts.
Anyone else here connecting the fucking dots?
Fuck you, Krasnov.

Without him, the problem wouldn't have existed in the first place.

(50,586 posts)thinks it will be. His constant unpredictability is putting everyone on edge and in the end, everyone will still be paying much higher prices for almost everything. People need periods of stability and certainty, they'll never achieve that with Trump in the White House.

(7,907 posts)I sincerely doubt China did anything except continue not shipping anything to our ports and Donnie calls hitting the snooze button "a deal". The deal basically was kicking the can down the road.

(98,883 posts)so obviously the media are carrying the water for this imbecile, and thinking the dumb ass American public will buy it, which they probably will.
It is the biggest con job, boon doogle right before everyone's eyes, and far too many idiots are buying it.
"The US and China will temporarily lower tariffs on each other's products, with the US reducing its levies from 145% to 30% and China dropping its duties from 125% to 10%.
Per Bloomberg.
What the OP said is absolutely correct, and it isn't permanent, just 90-days.

(350 posts)will think of this as a win. Probably get back the last US hostage in Gaza today. Decent chance of a Russia-Ukraine agreement in the next 60 days and some type of agreement in Gaza. These look good on paper, but don't pass the smell test. If his approval rating goes up, I believe phase 2 will be more repression of US citizens.

(5,896 posts)It isn't a 100% tariff on list or sales price. It is on the imported cost. So if that item sell for $100 but the importer paid 50 the sales price would be $115.
Still a screw job for us. And more than we would have paid before.

(325 posts)make up for the loss in profit that was compounded by the fact that even a slight rise in price will make many consumers reconsider their purchase. Also, somewhere out there an independent truck driver lost a good chunk of income from reduced cargo. That led to a diesel supplier losing sales and potentially laying off more people.
Disruptions in any area of a supply chain tend to have ripple effects that impact everyone whether we know it or not. Many many businesses will wonder why their sales went down even though they weren't impacted by tariffs and never raised prices....
krkaufman
(13,957 posts)… if the importer is passing along the 30% tariff tax to the retail consumer. Of course, the sales price can be whatever the seller deems the market will bear, and if they feel that they can get away with bumping the price by more than just the tariff rate you can bet they’ll do so. (See the cost of laundry drying machines when tariffs were imposed on washers.)

(8,404 posts)A national emergecy. Aren't there several legal challenges to this document filed which state that DJT's use of the tariffs exceeds his authority, much as many of his "orders" do?
IMO this us another gaslighting event because we don't deserve the truth according to Miller. Navaro, and Vance. Well hear the real costs next week at the grocery store, the dealerships, and the bank.

(14,446 posts)again in my lifetime be as strong as it was the day before trump took office the second time.
Even if he wins a few battles here and there, he has lost the war. And even if the country manages to remove him from office and replaces him with someone excellent who also has really good luck in world affairs, the damage he has done to this nation will take generations to repair.

(1,158 posts)It's all about appearances. It doesn't matter that he created a problem to "solve", or that consumers will pay 30% more than before he created the problem.
They will sell it as a win. We can obviously see it and they, Republicans, will try to distract from the truth in any way they can. And they will, easily.
Why would China accept looking weak? I suspect other than just trying to get back to business as usual, they have something else in mind. Like selling off American debt and negotiating better deals with other countries. They will use the next 90 days for positioning.
IMHO, the Felon has exposed his ass and made us weaker. Who wants to work with an unstable Country with a maniacal leader at the helm. Only our enemies that are working him. As a reward, he provides valuable information to them.
In the meantime our allies have been weakened by our betrayal and our rivals are swooping in to take advantage strategically, politically and economically.
So much for "we're number one, we're number one."
The titans of industry have been so busy trying to turn us into cheap worker bees that they lost site of needing consumers. The value of the US dollar is a balancing act but I'm concerned his actions have put us on a downward spiral. Just a layman's opinion. I hope I'm wrong.
