Just passing along because it's an article by the author of a book "Better Without AI"
Decide for yourself ( autocorrect said Decide for Yosemite)
https://betterwithout.ai/apocalypse-now
Current AI systems are already harmful, and may cause near-term catastrophes through their ability to shatter societies, cultures, and individual psychologies. That might potentially cause human extinction, but it is more likely to scale up to the level of the twentieth century dictatorships, genocides, and world wars. We would be wise to anticipate possible harms in as much detail as possible.
The AI apocalypse is now.
Now, if we can finagle the AI apocalypse to fight the Trumpocalypse, cool. Work remains to be done.

(1,396 posts)2. I don't know about AI taking over
It seems a little far-fetched to assume they'll have the same motivations as evil humans. I think what's more likely is the tech-bro billionaire owners of the AI will use them to basically replace everyone's jobs, and then eventually argue that it's too expensive to keep all the now jobless useless eaters alive.

I don't know. I guess you get different shots if a dog bites you or its owner bites you. Still needs meds.
