JUST IN: A federal judge has invalidated key components of a Biden-era rule on asylum claims — finalized under the Trump administration — ruling that its restrictions on asylum-seekers violated the clear language of federal law.

Judge Contreras ruled that the rule improperly

1) Barred asylum claims from those who don't arrive at ports of entry
2) Required immigrants to proactively express fear of return, rather than screen them all
3) Limited their window to consult counsel to 4 hours (down from 24)

Contreras also noted that his ruling is largely academic because Trump had effectively shuttered the southern border and the administration no longer processing asylum claims at all.
