This is what he said

“It's a very special car, and it's very limited number, too,”

Car. Not jet engine.

He doesn't even know what his own tariffs are on. This was for jet engines.

Rolls Royce has engines on Boeing 777s and 787s, they go for $60 Million a pair or more, so the tariffs we had on them added $millions to the cost.

I saw the one you're talking about and recall it well. I remember thinking I wish I was in the room so I could say, "You poor, pitiful, sad man. You think a Rolls Royce makes you special."

So sad, what a poor opinion of himself he has.

this latest round does involve Rolls Royce cars but the bigger trade issue is Rolls Royce jet engines.

It's all getting confusing, but the number of cars is very small and will have little impact on trade. Tariffs on jet engines, on the other hand, will hurt Boeing, even though RR does have a large facility in Indianapolis.

9. Considering that all the UK manufacturers combined accounted for only 0.6% of US sales makes it a ridiculous complaint

UK manufacturers combined sold 106,000 vehicles last year compared to total US sales of 16 million units.

Hardly a vehicle only available to the wealthy considering the average price of a new car in 2025 is $48, 641.

They are probably not in the market for a 50K car.

You do realize that many people buy cheap, used cars. Cars that are often unreliable long term, just to get by.

Must mean all new car buyers are rich. They deserve to pay tariffs, right?

WASHINGTON ― President Donald Trump said he made a special exception for the United Kingdom by lowering tariffs on automobiles to help high-end British auto manufacturers such as Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Jaguar that produce vehicles in the United Kingdom.

“It's a very special car, and it's very limited number, too,” Trump, speaking from the Oval Office, said of Rolls-Royce vehicles,

The US has agreed to reduce import taxes on a set number of British cars and allow some steel and aluminium into the country tariff-free, as part of a new agreement between the US and UK.

snip

But it will leave a 10% duty in place on most goods from the UK.

Though hailed by the leaders of the two countries as significant, analysts said it did not appear to meaningfully alter the terms of trade between the countries, as they stood before the changes introduced by Trump this year.

snip

The two sides said the US had agreed to reduce the import tax on cars - which Trump had raised by 25% last month - to 10% for 100,000 cars a year.

This article doesn't mention any aircraft engines.

18. Bentley and Rolls are technically German.
Fri May 9, 2025, 04:26 PM

Lots of German parts, too.

Jaguar is Indian, Lotus and MG are Chinese, McLaren is UAE.

So UK cars, that's Aston Martin, Caterham, Noble and maybe Morgan? I don't think we can have a Noble here.

I know, I know. Something about parts and/or where built or some such nonsense. I just find this all ridiculous.

Because they want to keep this raving lunatic in power for as long as possible. Golden age, or something.

Seriously, if we ever get out of this, the Heritage Foundation needs to be permanently banned from DC forever.
