Watching Putin's Victory Day parade on BBC News,

I noticed the military hardware rolling past the camera was all very old design tanks and APCs. He can't spare any of his top-line equipment for a military parade. Now maybe it fits that this was the type of equipment in use at the time, but when have the Russians ever been shy of rolling out their most fearsome modern gear?

Wouldn’t be prudent to set out the top-end equipment - only to have it blown up in front of the world.
