Mental health care is abysmal in this country. The last thing we need is to slash funding and services! When I didn't have health insurance, my only care option was out of pocket. I could only afford the minimal med management, which was four 15 minute appointments each year. One hour of psych care per year! I'm struggling with bipolar and trauma and heaven knows what else. I need far more care than that! Shame on this misadministration, who targets the elderly, children, and the ill. They are weaving social darwinism back into the fabric of our society. It's Dickens for the digital age. #fuckers

(4,526 posts)Having worked in hospital administration and seeing in our ER's how untreated mental health conditions impacts families, communities and the health care system, it is truly an epidemic with huge costs to our society. While the county and state tried to cobble together a safety net system, it is a daunting task where there are too few mental health docs and specialists, woefully too few appropriate facilities and no support to families unless they are independently wealthy.
Mental health issues touch so many families that I think it would be a resonant issue if the Dems proposed something that was nationwide and comprehensive and with real $$$ support. Would need to include major recruiting and paid training initiative for mental health care docs and workers
