Why throw in a gender based slur while pointing out that racial slurs suck and people who support using them also suck? Seems to undercut the point that slurs are bad if we don't like someone's actions we revert to doing the same thing we're against.

Such bigoted speech is based on hatred or stupidity. It is lazy, generalized speech, meant to demean. It is not a matter of degree. Bigotry is simply bigotry.

So, members of any group is justified in being angered by such speech. Bigoted speech ignores all but one aspect of people's identity. Usually, that speech is directed at an individual, but lumps all individuals with the same particular characteristic into a single category.

Referring to one woman as a "bitch" is essentially calling all women bitches. So, women are generally offended by that word being used as an insult aimed at a particular individual.

Why do that? It's very simple to refer to the woman who used a racial slur against a black child by slurring the woman with a slur used against women.

There are plenty of words one can use to identify a person. In the present case, "woman" or even "young woman" could be used. That she was wrong to call that black child that bigoted name is not reason enough to refer to her with another slur. That's just a very weak use of language, and it is offensive.

As for the comment itself, please remember that the term "bitch" is just one of a plethora of slurs directed at human females, not just a sign of bad manners. Pretending otherwise ignores centuries of misogynistic oppression, and denies the "real historical weight and harm" behind the slurs it represents.

Yes, this racist's behavior was appalling, but the point is, it's no more related to her gender than bad behavior on the part of other marginalized peoples is related to their race or orientation. To claim otherwise is like saying it's "ok" to use the N word if the person being targeted is a bad person.

Insults must address character, not immutable characteristics of birth or orientation. Refusing to do that for everyone, makes us hypocrites.

At no point did I say I was more upset about one or the other. If you think you or the original poster couldn't have made the same point without misogynistic language, that's your own limitation and maybe you should take a moment to examine why that is to use your own words. I'm actually pretty reflective on my language which is why I don't use the word bitch to describe someone I don't like.

I'm not sure how post on the Internet about something happening to someone you don't know hardly qualifies as an emotional response that gets a pass on using slurs. It's not an in the moment thing by definition. Would you be making the same remark if the OP used the c word?

Adding the word bitch didn't add anything to the post, and detracted from the point that she's bad for being a bigot. But I guess it's easier to ascribe negative motivations to me than being more introspective. If you can't even consider anything other than your own perspective, that's a you limitation.

I want a direct citation of me saying that bitch is worse than the n word. You won't be able to do so because I didn't.

That you are so defensive of being allowed to use the word bitch says a lot about your priorities. See how easy that is? You haven't actually addressed what I or other people have said because you're not willing to even consider that you're wrong and you're too busy making things up about what we're saying in an attempt to justify a word you seem the need to defend.

It''s interesting you think using slurs against women is a tone and not a slur. Just out of curiosity, is it only race that's out of bounds? What about homophobic slurs, are they tone or a slur? What about against the Roma, is it okay to say someone gypped me if I promise I don't mean it was all Roma people? Homophobic slurs?

Has it occurred to you that just saying "yes being a racist is bad" wouldn't have added anything by itself? Because it's pretty obvious and doesn't say anything new. On the other hand, saying something to encourage thinking about how someone is using language does add something substantive that wasn't there before. But I will stop responding now because you aren't interested in having a discussion and nothing further I can say will add anything here.

If someone calls me or anyone a gender slur, it just makes them smaller in my opinion, a person to steer clear of I’m getting so pissed at the immature filthy treatment. They are giving to our freshman congresswoman Sarah McBride. I’d like to tell Nancy Mace to go to her local bar and she can behave like that but not in Congress

The mere fact she raised over a half million dollars gives me the shivers that hate and racism exists there.

Rochester has become more diverse in population since 2000. More people from other parts of the world moved there to work and raise a family. The Mayo Clinic has a workforce diverse as well. I always have felt safe there.

As the saying goes...One rotten apple spoils the entire bushel.

about theoreticals that take away from the actual AWFUL racist AmeriKKKan behavior made worse by THOUSANDS of racist Americans giving her money for being a vicious abusive piece of shit to a little boy who is Black.

Kiandria Demone is the women who worked to identify the payment platform and has rounded up this little boy's aunties (including me) to go after this vicious little worthless piece of shit.
https://thegrio.com/2025/05/07/shiloh-hendrix-raised-over-600k-after-calling-a-black-child-a-racial-slur-kiandria-demone-is-making-sure-she-never-sees-a-cent/

That’s when she remembered the fact that, “there’s a bank somewhere.”

“That’s who has some accountability,” she continued. “The bank can’t just do whatever they want to do. A payment processor they cannot just do whatever they want to do. They have a policy and they have regulations, there are laws, there are people who monitor that, there are people that the payment processor has to answer to.”

The 33-year-old social media disrupter has launched an effort to prevent Hendrix from receiving any money from her campaign on GiveSendGo, which has netted over $600,000. (The ask has since been increased to $1 million.) By directing her nearly 50k followers and all who want to help to put pressure on the fundraising platform and payment processor by making complaints, she hopes to hold them accountable for profiting off of hate.

While Square has denied being the payment processor for GiveSendGo, an update to the documentation Demone is using to provide guidance alleges that Stripe has taken over as the payment processor for the donation platform. Stripe has neither confirmed nor denied being the payment processor and for now, she has not heard back directly from GiveSendGo or Square. She’s not deterred as she sees real momentum around this forming into movement to inspire change across the board with these online platforms by actively holding the platforms accountable through mass email and complaint campaigns. Momentum she said that has shocked her.

When the hostility from Black Americans hits folks - this is why. It's ALL a lie for us. Every little bit of the false narrative about equality and justice.

Being a white racist woman who cries boo hoo for catching it on the ass for a being a cruel sick twist to a little kid gets you REWARDED. God fucking forbid you call her a bitch! (something blah blah intersection)

Choking a man to death on a subway gets you rewarded.

Luigi is a 'folk hero' but the man who saw his son shot to death on a bodycam is a 'zero' for seeing red and being a FATHER.

Now with all I've said - wouldn't you prefer that instead of me hoping she chokes to death - I would have called her a 'bitch'. Because to me? Calling her a racist bitch is being nice.

I won't be tone policed under any circumstances.

You do realize Shiloh's information has been doxed to death - right? Send her a letter telling her it's alright to call a little boy a bratty idiotic hateful child - but not to call him a hard-er n-word.

If you think that's bad - You oughta hear what I call Kristi Fake Face Noem when her ugly ass shows up on the t.v. during the evening news. My husband keeps the remote control in hand the entire time to reduce the screaming of 'change over from that ' ....'. Bitch is nice.

What can I say? I have a very good Brit friend who uses it all of the time. Her toaster has been called a c-word when I'm on the phone with her.

I don't buy the "be the better person" bullshit.

Am I sane and humane?

Yes.

And I might use vile words to describe the others - but at least Im not insane and inhumane like thrm.

Folks better wake up and realize we are in a culture war. Fight dirty and win.

You call one woman a gendered slur, you are calling all of us one. That's how it works. And, for some reason, gendered slurs aren't considered "as bad" as other slurs.

That is not how I feel at all, as a woman. The OP specifically identified who was being discussed. The OP wasn't talking about me.

I’m convinced many never get out, watch TV, see movies or participate in society if they're reaching for the smelling salts over a word choice in the OP. Or maybe the over the top outrage is just performative?
