I'm not sure it is meant to mock the church. To do that would require, on Donald's part, a subtlety of mind that I don't think he possesses.

I think Trump is the ultimate Dunning–Kruger effect specimen. In his fevered mind he clearly sees himself able to handle the pope's job. He has already been anointed by the American god. The rest of the world just needs to get on board.

What I'm getting at here is that he is bat shit crazy.
