(58,137 posts)Sometimes, it turns out well, sometimes it's useless, and you rarely know which beforehand.
One of our neighbors just had it, and he was miserable for the first two weeks. Gradually he improved, and he is now happy as a clam that he got it done. Here's hoping you're in his category!
For your opinion,
The scalpel is going in my back. You, didnt ease my anxiety.

(65,437 posts)That is compression of the spine, which was causing numbness on one side of my body and weakness and pain on the other side of my body. I could barely write, walk, or lift anything.
They replaced three disks in my neck. The surgery went in from the front of my neck. Virtually no scar left. As for the pain, it has nearly all subsided, but there were some residual issues that continue to improve. I was on painkillers for about a month.
It was considered emergency surgery and if I had fallen or been in an accident, I may have been paralyzed or left with very limited mobility. As it is now, I am able to walk without any assistance.
Beat of luck with your surgery, Koz.
