Not suggesting, of course, that anyone should lose any sleep over it, if he is.
I know that when I'm acting mean toward others, I'm in a crappy mood and feel bad. I've heard others say the same thing about themselves.
When I'm in a good mood, I'm much less likely to take offense, make snarky remarks, etc.

I person with that much animosity towards so many cannot have a happy life.

(3,162 posts)I’ve yet to hear any anecdote about him that wasn’t mean spirited.

(1,767 posts)I was married to a malignant narcissist. Even when they are "happy", they always self sabotage. They thrive on being the victim and being in a state of upheaval. Real happiness and contentedness is something they are not capable of.
Which is why he gets off on making others miserable.

(23,163 posts)IF you were winning at golf all the time! Trump has all those club championships to his name. So good. Some say there's never been a better golfer!

(2,633 posts)Sociopaths don't feel things like guilt.
It's not about guilt. It's called narcissistic rage and trump displays that countless times, as do all narcs. It's part and parcel of being a narcissist.

(20,670 posts)think he hates the fact that he is getting old and he knows he is overweight and can’t do the things he used to do. He would have been better off, after he lost the election in 2020, to leave the US and live elsewhere.

(note that he probably doesn't have to worry about prescriptions in the same way the rest of us do. in his case, someone is just stocking the supply when needed)

(19,407 posts)So, that’s why he’s up at 2am tweeting insults, because otherwise he would be alone with his nagging awareness of his complete failure as a human.
Constantly Flexing power, seeking wealth and adulation, and making others suffer are the only things that can temporarily quiet the roaring insecurity and emptiness inside of him.

(43,946 posts)…of Trump at one of his rallies, being told some student journalist wanted to ask him a question. I think it was about the cost of college or something.
When Trump’s handler tells he he has to entertain this kid for a half minute, Trump spews out annoyingly, “What, do I have to do this now? Let’s get this over with.”
Meanwhile I recently watched a story on Bill Clinton, while he was President, and he too got a similar request for an interview from a student journalist. He was more than happy to sit down with the kid and be interviewed for 10 minutes, took pictures, etc.
It made a huge impact on that kid’s life. He ended up starting a successful company, even helped to pay for the college education of the kids of the staffer who helped arrange the interview. He and Clinton even reunited years later.
Some people actually like and care about other people’s lives.
Donald Trump is not one of those people.

(124,951 posts)Actually, although it's hard for me to wish him well, it would be better for everyone if he wasn't so miserable, because then maybe he wouldn't be such a pernicious asshole. He's clearly miserable all the time or he wouldn't be enraged and lashing out at everybody and everything. Happy, contented people don't devote their lives to the destruction of others.

So he spends much of his time between angry and furious. The only relief he gets is when he's in a safe space like rallies or fox news where they almost always play along.
relief from withdrawal is not happiness, but it's the closest he'll ever get.
