Trump Just Said The Quiet Part Loud When Reporters Asked Him About Potential Tariff-Driven Shortages And Empty Shelves

Trump Just Said The Quiet Part Loud When Reporters Asked Him About Potential Tariff-Driven Shortages And Empty Shelves

Since President Trump's April 2 announcement of sweeping tariffs on imported goods from over 180 countries, Americans have been anxiously watching the economy. Now, there are fears that his policies will lead to product shortages and empty store shelves in the coming months.

Publicly, Trump has insisted that China and other countries facing tariffs from the United States would pay for the increased costs. Economic analysts and big businesses like Best Buy and Target, however, warn that tariffs (aka import taxes) will raise prices for Americans.

Well, on Wednesday, Trump took questions from reporters and seemed to admit that the tariffs would drive up prices and limit the supply of goods in American stores.

In response, people noted that these comments are a far cry from Trump's campaign promises to lower costs on day one.

Trump on if US will enter a recession: ‘Anything can happen’

President Trump weighed in on whether the U.S. will enter a recession, saying during an interview that “anything can happen,” but argued country’s economic state will be “OK” in the long-term.

Trump, during an interview with NBC’s “Meet The Press” that will air in full on Sunday, first dismissed concerns about the nation entering a recession.

“Remember this. Look, yeah, it’s everything’s okay. What we are. I said, this is a transition period. I think we’re going to do fantastically,” Trump told moderator Kristen Welker on Friday.

He then responded in the negative when asked by Welker whether he is concerned about an economic recession.

If there is an economic downturn, I hope it begins to show towards the end of this year. Let Republicans have to defend everything they've done in 2026.
