Israel redraws Gaza map, limiting Palestinians to a third of the enclave

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2025/05/01/israel-gaza-buffers-evacuation-orders/

In the six weeks since Israel resumed its war in Gaza, Israeli forces have dramatically altered its map, declaring about 70 percent of the enclave either a military “red zone” or under evacuation, according to the United Nations, and pushing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians into ever-shrinking pockets.

The Israeli military says its evacuation orders allow civilians to flee ahead of fighting, and those who remain could be considered combatants. In practice, Palestinians say, the evacuation orders often force them to flee under fire. Recent evacuation orders have covered border areas and population centers and have displaced more than 420,000 people, according to the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

The war has killed more than 52,000 Palestinians, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which does not differentiate between civilians and combatants.

In the early months of the war, Israeli forces razed buildings and agricultural fields to create an initial buffer zone. Israeli officials said this was necessary to eliminate Hamas tunnels and prevent another attack. Legal experts said the military’s tactics violate international law.

"Concentrating" them into nightmarish, disease-ridden enclaves with no clean water - maybe no water - no food, no hospitals. As if not bad enough, the IDF still bombs them there too.

When they have been "encouraged" enough, Israel's hope is that they will opt for "voluntary emigration".

This is the new way to ethnically cleanse those inconvenient natives. So what if their kids are now stunted and impaired for life, never to be allowed to return to their homeland?

But it's not ethnic cleansing and genocide, right?

It is truly sick.

This should transcend all politics, alliances, faiths etc. This should be a matter of simple humanity, which as we see is neither simple nor all that humane.

All the West - including Europe - is complicit. Arab nations too, their only excuse is that they are ruled by tyrants and monarchs in the pocket of the U.S.

When the US voted for Trump, they voted for Gaza to cease to exist. Every man woman and child in Gaza will be forced out or be exterminated, that's the plan now. And anyone trying to interfere will face the wrath of Trump.

* if those who were shouting "Genocide Joe" and "Killer Kamala" are questioning their choices. There was a lot of disloyal treachery going on in certain states, by certain individuals. It's my hope that their political careers end soon. We can do better. We deserve better.

In the meantime, this is the price that must be paid for the arrogance of some who demanded perfection and who could not bring themselves to support "better than Trump" Democrats simply because the candidate wasn't perfect. Sad. Stupid. (Mostly stupid.)

* the Democratic party and our candidates (plural) for not being perfect (in their opinion) when it comes to Israeli and Palestinian issues. These individuals were behaving as if, and promoting the notion, that the Biden Harris administration were the rulers of the world and that simply by proclamation they could wave a magic wand and declare peace and harmony. A few of these treacherous individuals also leaped at every opportunity to shit on Hillary back in 2016, so their behavior toward Biden-then-Harris in 2024 was no surprise. It was just a continuation of a well established pattern of contempt. It's my dearest hope that these individuals will soon be out of the political arena.

and military equpment by the time Trump was inaugurated. A recent investigation by Israel’s Channel 13 revealed that Biden officials never pressured the Netanyahu government for a ceasefire, either:

“God did the State of Israel a favor that Biden was the president during this period… We fought {in Gaza} for over a year and the administration never came to us and said, ‘ceasefire now.’ It never did. And that’s not to be taken for granted.” — Former Israeli ambassador Michael Herzog

This was discussed at length and in detail ever since Hamas tortured, murdered and kidnapped civilians - including children and old people - on October 7.

Israel is a U.S. ally, and one of the only democracies in the Middle East.

Congress would never agree to abandoning Israel to be totally wiped out. We are not going to do that.

I disagree with the way Israel's government has responded but I would never, ever abandon an ally to be wiped off the face of the earth.

And when you inevitably say "that's what's happening in Palestine" I'll respond that Kamala Harris would never have released a video showing Gaza replaced by luxury resorts.

There was a clear choice between good and evil.

Benjamin Netanyahu gives silver-plated beeper to John Fetterman, who praised Lebanon pager operation

https://forward.com/fast-forward/705610/benjamin-netanyahu-gives-silver-plated-beeper-to-john-fetterman-who-praised-lebanon-pager-operation/

(JTA) — When Sen. John Fetterman said he loved the Israeli operation that sent exploding pagers to members of Hezbollah, he probably never expected that Israel would give him a beeper, too. But that’s what happened this week, when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed Fetterman, an outspokenly pro-Israeli Democratic lawmaker, to his office in Jerusalem.

The beeper handover took place during an exchange of gifts. The Pennsylvania senator gave Netanyahu a framed news article about an effort to memorialize Netanyahu’s brother, the fallen Israeli soldier Yoni Netanyahu, in Philadelphia — where Netanyahu lived as a teenager.

Netanyahu’s gift was smaller — and didn’t explode. “What can I give a man who has everything? How about giving him a beeper?” Netanyahu said, handing over a small silver box to Fetterman. “This is a silver-plated beeper. The real beeper is, like, one-tenth the weight. It’s nothing, but it changes history.” Fetterman responded, “When that story broke, I was like, ‘Oh, I love it, I love it.’ And now, it’s like, thank you for this.”

Pagers belonging to Hezbollah members exploded across Lebanon in September, wounding and killing many, in addition to a number of civilians, in a long-planned Israeli operation. The operation came 10 before Israel killed Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah’s leader, in an airstrike and two weeks ahead of an Israeli ground invasion of Lebanon targeting Hezbollah. That conflict ended in a ceasefire in late November.

As well seem to think he’s a good guy doing the “right thing” by killing Palestinians.

Even in left leaning spaces, there are cheers for every death. The suggestion that they are human beings is met with disdain and cries of antisemitism.

No surprise. Yes. Always gonna happen. Only in a Trump administration.

I doubt for a moment that Harris or “Genocide Joe” would abide by this. For all those who decided to sit home and watch others decide the election because, ya know, Biden wasn’t tough enough on Israel, for all those who said yeah…I’m ok with whatever cuz I can’t vote for Harris…how’s that working for ya now?

We’re in the FO stage because warnings to look past the Gaza issue in November were viewed as condoning Israel.

Whoever would have thought that a real estate developer would take a pass on stealing one of, if not the most prime pieces of undeveloped land in the world? I’m sure he falls asleep at night and says “Greenland? Who the fck really wants Greenland…gimme Gaza”. It’s every hotel/casino developer’s white whale.

This isn’t intended to point a specific finger and I know many here who were/are anti Israel didn’t stay home or (worse yet) vote for asshat. But that’s what happened in a lot of places among people more politely superficial than folks on DU.
