students who terrorized campusesPresident Donald Trump will launch an anti-Semitism crackdown on Wednesday when he signs an executive order instructing federal agencies to find ways to deport anti-Jewish activists who violated laws, including students on college campuses.
The executive order will allow the deportation of resident aliens including students with visas who broke laws as part of anti-Israel protests following the October 7th attacks in Israel, DailyMail.com confirmed.
Trump, during his presidential campaign, called for the deportation of pro-Hamas students who are in the United States on visas.

(4,938 posts)who is "pro-Palestinian" and who is anti-semitic? Where's the due process?
On edit - why am I asking these questions. The answer is there is no due process.

It seems that anyone advocating for the rights of Palestinians in Gaza risks being swiftly silenced or targeted. The situation is deeply troublingmay reason and justice prevail.

(14,641 posts)but I do gotta point out that those protesters and their supporters helped get Been A Dick Donald back into the WH, they are reaping what they helped sow.
Maybe next time, if there is a next time, they'll think twice about what the fuck they were doing.

I can agree it is unfair, but I have little sympathy. They knew exactly what the risk was when they made their choice

(2,151 posts)Don't you mean anti-democratic, fascistic and frightening? No longer just a slippery slope but a full view of the abyss?
Surely you don't mean to imply that they "deserve" to be stripped of their rights, deported/imprisoned/displaced and their lives turned upside down? Like the people of Gaza?
That seems a pretty transactional way of looking at democracy and democratic elections. "If you don't give me what I want, if you disagree with me, if you vote the wrong way - I have no sympathy if you lose all your rights like in a banana republic and I won't stand up for you".
It seems to me also that were it another minority group being targeted - blacks, jews, hispanics, LGBTQ+ etc - the outrage would be loud and authentic - as it should be. But there is something about Muslims/Arabs... what would that be??
Lots of rhetorical questions and I don't expect a response, but perhaps some reflection by the "FAFO crowd" here.
Everyone knows the Niemöller poem. He was initially a supporter of Hitler so I found something by the late great James Baldwin that I thought I'd include here. It's from a letter he wrote to Angela Davis in 1970. It's beautiful. He concludes with:
Therefore: peace.

(21,434 posts)But I will spell it out- I do not in any way support or condone the revocation of visas or deportation of those who exercised their First Amendment rights
Interesting how you used the term "transactional"
That is exactly what the "Genocide Joe" and "Abandon Harris" participated in. They were reminded that they were directly supporting the party that wanted to deport them, was anti-Palestinian and much more pro-Israel. Yet they chose the path anyway.
Do you recall how many minimized the threats they were making? 'It's just symbolic, they will come back in the GE'
They didn't.
AloeVera
(2,151 posts)"no sympathy".
Which, by the way, seems like just a nicer way of saying "FAFO".
But I am glad to hear your unconditional support for First Amendment rights. There should be no exemptions - we are all equal, right?
Warning your party that their actions or lack thereof will result in loss of support is not transactional. It's a declaration of a very basic democratic principle. We vote - or not vote -according to our conscience and our beliefs. Who among us can say with certainty that if it were OUR people, our tribe, our young kids, subjected to the bombs provided by OUR party, how we would vote? None of us are in their shoes, luckily. But we should be able to recognize the impossible position they were in and the impossible choices they had to make. Maybe we should ask why they were put in that position in the first place.
An alarming recent poll found that of the MILLIONS of "lost votes" for Harris (those who voted for Biden but did not vote in 2024), about a third gave their reason as Gaza. These people were not all Muslims/Arabs. Like wth? Shouldn't that prompt some urgent, critical self-reflection, some outreach or reconciliation with those voters? Some rethinking of foreign policy positions? They may be lost forever otherwise.
Maybe it's just easier to keep blaming "them" and engage in the unseemly schadenfreude of FAFO (not directed at you, but I have seen it too many times).
Keepthesoulalive
(952 posts)But the only one who could Help them was Harris. Trump told them what he was going to do and he has done it before. They blamed Biden for a situation that seemed manufactured to interfere in our elections. They were warned and as we are all finding out actions have consequences and we are all paying the price for their stupidity.

(2,151 posts)Here is the thing: they didn't BELIEVE Harris would help them or that she would be better for Gaza. Why didn't they believe it is the question Democrats should be asking. And why was Gaza a dealbreaker for so many Democrats? And why was Netanyahu allowed/able to sabotage a ceasefire time after time, or lay waste to Gaza and starve its population? Aside from the immorality of it, all of it made Biden look bad which played into both Trump and Netanyahu's schemes. Why did all of it unfold the way it did?
Those are hard questions. I don't know if they will ever be asked, let alone answered and that's really too bad.
Keepthesoulalive
(952 posts)There were a lot of bad players pushing propaganda on both sides. You dont hear about the atrocities anymore, not because they have stopped but there is no need anymore. The newspapers and blogs carried their message and they won.

Did they think that because they went against Harris/Walz that Been A Dick Donald would spare them?
Well, looks like they badly miscalculated.
I have zero fucks to give, they got what they wanted, now they have to live with the consequences.

anti-democratic, fascistic and frightening a bit hard to justify. I have no problem acknowledging their deportation to be anti-democratic in the same breath as I denounce their contributions to it having taken place. I will also point out that there are many good pro-democratic people who made no ridiculous demands and didn't vote for Trump but will nevertheless suffer the same fate because of them.
I would suggest that a clear distinction between the former and the latter is in order when invoking Baldwin.
