in his words
Yet what I felt during my final year at the Times was a push toward blandness, toward avoiding saying anything too directly in a way that might get some people (particularly on the right) riled up. I guess my question is, if those are the ground rules, why even bother having an opinion section?

(1,381 posts)I guess things are getting pretty bad there.
On one hand it brings some sadness, but I do think we need more trusted voices out of the MSM and in new media that people are actually consuming.

(95,872 posts)Importantly, he was the first economist I was not only able to fully understand, but agree with. The man is a liberal. Hes not a good public speaker hes very nervous in tv interviews but he is a brilliant writer.
I was able to read his columns without subscribing to the NYT because an admirer of his was republishing them at his own site. Alas, this was eventually shut down and I sorely missed reading Krugman.
Im happy that hes going his own way, since NYT clearly became toxic, and is joining up with other journalists at The Contrarian substack. I dont know the Substack world, but since so many good journalists have headed there
Thanks for your post, moonshinegnomie.
