I know that they are not here on DU but I felt the need to get this off of my chest. To those that sat out the last election, and to those that voted for Trump--
Now you will suffer along with the rest of us. You voted for Trump because you wanted cheaper groceries. Trump is now on the verge of destroying the federal government and the economy will follow. His tariffs will blow up the prices of common items and necessities, including fruits and vegetables that are imported from Mexico. Food prices will not be going down.
His destruction of the federal government will severely damage the economy and lead to chaos across the nation. If you live in a state that has a natural disaster, have fun. You will be on your own. The federal government will not be there to help you.
Trump doesn't give a damn about you. He only cares about his own power and wealth. He just wanted your vote and your money. He considers you suckers. Once you are no longer useful to him, he will throw you under the bus. He will kill federal programs that help the common people so that he can make his billionaire cronies richer with tax cuts and government giveaways and contracts. This is government by and for the rich. The poor, the working class, the middle class, can all take a walk as far as Trump is concerned.
I say this with no glee because the entire country is going to suffer, but at a certain point we can say to the Trumpers and everyone that allowed Trump to get back in- We told you so.

(21,241 posts)...People who were in swing states that sat out the vote instead of voting Dem sank us, but you seem to be painting blame with too broad a brush, because no solid Dem states flipped.

(984 posts)I am not trying to blame the solid Dem states. I am just blaming those who voted for Trump against their own self interest and those that sat out the election in the swing states. They are the ones responsible.
Think. Again.
(21,241 posts)But there are other reasons also:
Here are key numbers:
4,776,706 voters were wrongly purged from voter rolls according to US Elections Assistance Commission data.
By August of 2024, for the first time since 1946, self-proclaimed vigilante voter-fraud hunters challenged the rights of 317,886 voters. The NAACP of Georgia estimates that by Election Day, the challenges exceeded 200,000 in Georgia alone.
No less than 2,121,000 mail-in ballots were disqualified for minor clerical errors (e.g. postage due).
At least 585,000 ballots cast in-precinct were also disqualified.
1,216,000 provisional ballots were rejected, not counted.
3.24 million new registrations were rejected or not entered on the rolls in time to vote.
If the purges, challenges and ballot rejections were random, it wouldnt matter. Its anything but random. For example, an audit by the State of Washington found that a Black voter was 400% more likely than a white voter to have their mail-in ballot rejected. Rejection of Black in-person votes, according to a US Civil Rights Commission study in Florida, ran 14.3% or one in seven ballots cast.
There are also the uncountable effects of the explosive growth of voter intimidation tactics including the bomb threats that closed 31 polling stations in Atlanta on Election Day.

(984 posts)I am not trying to imply that there were no other reasons why Kamala Harris "lost". Maybe Joe Biden should have used his Imperial Presidency powers and declared the 2024 election rigged, blocked the certification of Trump, and appointed Kamala Harris President, since she actually won. I am joking of course, but there was clearly election interference from a number of quarters. We live in a very dark period of history. Thank you for commenting.
Think. Again.
(21,241 posts)...that joke you're making will turn out to be be the most correct move Biden could have, and should have, made.

(2,571 posts)According to Greg Palast, over 3 million Dem voters were purged from the voter rolls.
This is Republican corruption that disenfranchised these Dem voters.
However, I and other people who are informed, knew about these voter roll purges. If I knew this, then our Democratic Party Leadership, i.e. VP Harris at the time, should have known about this corruption. The Dem Party should have poured 10's of millions of dollars (or more - it was the fate of the nation - right?) into the swing states to counteract the purges. Thousands of volunteers should have been going door-to-door ensuring that the voter was registered.
But no, they did nothing. And the Republicans stole this election and our democracy.
