Bonhoeffer could have lived out the war by teaching Sunday School in Harlem.
But he went back to Germany.

(21,063 posts)to the cruelty he constantly advertises. That there is a national effort against her tells us how weak this country has become. Episcopalians have always stood for social justice. Thank you, Bishop Budde.

(3,400 posts)The Bible calls for it over and over again.
"What does the Lord require of you? To seek justice, love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God."
(Micah 6:8)
When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God

Did she attack Trump for all his lies? No
Did she attack Trump for his extramarital affairs? No
She called for mercy...I guess that is the Rubicon for MAGA.
Here is an excerpt from the Bible; not to preach to anyone.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
1 Corinthians 13
Also from Shakespeare (referring to Trump)

(11,539 posts)My husband and I were both raised Catholic. I abandoned Catholicism in college, because I was tired of being treated like a second-class citizen. My husband stuck with it. We were married in our local Catholic Church here in the Maryland suburbs of DC, mostly because I was already getting enough shit from my mother, I didn't want to add to it. We both kind of went our own ways religiously. He would come to Pagan events occasionally, and I would go to Mass on Christmas and Easter. He eventually got disgusted with the more conservative turn that the Catholic Church was taking and left. He drifted for a while, until his therapist suggested trying the Episcopal Church.
He went, and the first service he went to had a baptism for the child of lesbian parents. He knew right then that this was a good place. I don't know what the Episcopalians are like in other areas, but he has found the DC region to be very open and welcoming to all. I jokingly call my husband an "EpiscoPagan." I've gone to a couple of their events, and have been welcomed - not just as his wife. About a year ago, the church celebrated it's 150th anniversary, and Bishop Budde came to the celebration. He got to meet her in the reception line, and she is a lovely person.

(11,204 posts)Don't believe in a supernatural 'god'; however, I don't discount the potential upside of religion. Most religions espouse 'the golden rule' and many have mythical or actual wise leaders who teach peace and compassion. 'Christ' is one of those. Devout Christians like Carter lived their lives believing in the teaching of Christ. Fake Christians like Mike Hohnson adore the Old Testament and ignore the New. All Budde did was speak in the spirit of Christ, as is her sworn duty. And she is being excoriated for it by the right. I wish we had more brave and honest ministers like her.

(10 posts)This was neither media, nor big business. It was not the wealthy whose reach has marveled us as to what they can achieve.
It was neither the people who worked along side, or near by.
God does not shout,
but speaks in whispers.
Sometimes even in the silence.
And a voice was heard,
it had to be heard.
It was heard
and some have marveled at its power,
and some have condemned it for its trying.
Some have questioned its existence,
others, declare they will put it out.
Because they serve a sad master
a powerless hand.
that only rises because it has said,
"Look How Great I AM"
But a voice,
from the spaces in between spoke out.
Not in shouts, but a whisper,
a tone of contemplation and said
"Have Mercy."
God is
not
