California's Newsom will join GOP governors in raising flag for Trump inauguration

Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom will join Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson and some GOP governors around the country in directing U.S. flags be raised to full height on Inauguration Day.

Newsom’s spokesperson Izzy Gardon confirmed Wednesday that the governor would temporarily direct the raising of flags at the state Capitol in Sacramento for President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration. Flags at the U.S. Capitol and at statehouses around the country have been lowered to half-staff in honor of the late former President Jimmy Carter.

Newsom, who has become a foil for Trump over the years, will need federal help as his state recovers from devastating wildfires that have killed more than two dozen people.

Trump has complained about American flags being flown at half-staff during his inauguration. “Nobody wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it,” he posted on his social media platform.

Foreign countries all flatter Trump. Why? Because they all read the same play book. Trump cabinet meetings are 2 hrs ass kiss ceremonies.

Does it always work? No. Does it work. Clearly yes and clearly everyone knows it. His cabinet is filled with people that kissed up and flattered him.

Think. Again.

If you don't benefit him in some way, he doesn't care if you kiss his ass or not.

He never feels he has to pay back any ass-kissing debt.

He can have it. But yeah I agree, there's far more important things to worry about.

… that trump and his trumpistas who are in political office in DC are threatening/promising that blue states are going to have disaster aid withheld?

I live in California. Thanks to climate change the whole state is a fire zone. Thanks to that — in a year or two my husband and I are very likely to have no home insurance at all, not at any price.

So whatever MY governor believes he needs to do — I will trust he has information that I don’t.

figure out why anyone is getting at all worked up over a swearing in ceremony. It's just a ceremony. The weather, inside/outside, flags, etc. None of this matters at all, and people are getting all wound up over it. Are these the things I am supposed to get excited about? I even saw another post where someone was wishing for people to be shot and killed at this thing, another hoping that Americans suffer. For real?
Newsom will be there to show his support for our system, and nothing more. We should all be following such an example and maybe even stop hoping for people to die or suffer because those things are the exact opposite of Democracy.
