Dude!
Republicans - have had the governor's office since 2017 and I don't think Jim Justice was all that much of a Democrat anyway.
Republicans - have had the House of Delegates and Senate since 2014.

Hey, get ready for it though, because you're going to see a lot more of this.
REPUBLICANS HAVE SUPER-MAJORITIES BUT DEMOCRATS ARE TO BLAME!

(883 posts)We have to get our people to the polls. They poisoned the river that people used for water and they still didnt get it. Lets take on meaningful battles.

(21,992 posts)Is pointing out the abject failure that most of the reds states are. Probably because Democrats view all the states as Americans too and want to hanve compassion for the people suffering there.
So we've had like 20 years of Cons and their media talking about California, and for some reason Chicago and Portland, like they're these post apacaluptic hellscapes but noe one ever replying, "Um, sure, but would you like to answer for West Virginia, Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisianna?" The pocerty you see in some of those states is simply 3rd world level and a lot of the country is unaware that there are so many people in the richest country in the world living in what amount to shacks or lean-tos.
You've got Florida succeeding because rich northernoers retire or vacation there. You've got texas succeeding because of oil. And then you have a whole bunch of states that make up almost the entire worst 10 in education, income, poverty, health, crime, freedom, inequality, and basically every major metric that represents quality of life. Most of these red states can't even provides basics sercices for their residents without the blue states tax dollars coming to them through the Federal Goverment.
And this is actually the Republican plan, to turn the blue states into the worst of the red states. Places where the prisons are chuck full of young black men, places where workers have no rights and are forced to work for starvation wages, places where a hand full of the ultra rich live like kings and control everything, places where people work until they drop dead because retirement is no longer a thing. That's the Trump plan for America, to take everything from the middel class in America, everything!

Cut them off and they'll learn to be self-sufficient according to Cons.

Let them have their banjo contests and their pointless, decades-long blood feuds.
Just keep them away from the ballot box.

(9,988 posts)Id appreciate your consideration for a little nuance on this topic. Your Friday-night comment is a little too far. There are a lot of people, communities, and aspects of the Mountain State that are quite diverse and far different from the stereotypes reflected in such narrow commentary.
Honestly, I would expect better from you, and from others here. Heard it my whole life, and am a little sick of it. Criticize the jingoistic politics and all of that, the raping of the mountains for coal, sure, but dont come across as a total bigot, ok? Maybe check out the politics of West Virginia prior to the 1970s? Note that during the Civil War, in defiance of Federal law, the people there seceded from Virginia in protest against that states devotion to human slavery, 1863.

(68,821 posts)And I dont want to alienate people like you, drum.
But were about to embark on (an at least) four year journey of fascism, incompetence, pettiness, vindictiveness, institutionalized douchebaggery, and moral squalor because the very people I described couldnt be bothered to vote for competent, experienced, moral, progressive, and devoted public servants.
They genuinely thought a reality tv star was an acceptable candidate for the Presidency, despite the fact that he proved himself a colossal fuckup the first time around.
I dont care if a person is nice one-on-one, smiles and says howdy on the street. Who they are in the voting booth is who they really are. So they bring a tasty dish to the bean supper. How does that help our country? A country for which I nearly bought it because of a Scud missile?
I dont know if this will earn back some of your good regard, drum. But I absolutely love Cleveland. And always have. (Maybe theres a lesson here for me). I never understood the jokes. I visited the city twice, and have loved it both times. The people are kind, warm, friendly, and generous. I love Cleveland.
