(19,923 posts)... the inauguration comittee, not trump.

(418 posts)Trump was looking at a record low attendance at the ceremony, It was already going to be low because of the "been there, done that" attitude. And the weather forecast ensures that this would be the smallest crowd in 50 years.
So think again. If you don't get this, you haven't been paying attention to Trump's ego.
Moving it inside will allow him to say "ALl the professionals say this was going to be the biggest crowd that has ever been assembled in human history. But I had to think about the safety of the people, so I moved it inside."
Or to put it another way, if Trump thought he was going to have a big crowd, there is no way he would cancel this. No way ever. He doesn't give a shit about anybody's safety.

(121,931 posts)certainly not in the numbers he wants, but he'll love it that those who do show up are willing to freeze their butts off for him.

(19,923 posts)I just don't think a President-elect has the authority over this.
He might think he's all-powerful, but let's not make that same mistake ourselves. When he doesn't have power, we don't need to let him just take it.

(418 posts)Deciding where to have the ceremony? Of course he does. There is a tradition of having it outside, but that means nothing to Trump, and I don't believe there is anything in any law that says it must be outside. The Constitution simply says
"The terms of the President and Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January ..."
and
"Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation: I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
It doesn't say where or how.
Moreover, it is terrific if it is moving inside. We should harass him endlessly with the charge he moved it because he knew it was going to be a tiny crowd. TINY !!!
We have to grate on Trump's last nerve every day the rest of his life. See Axelrod play this hand.

(20,361 posts)what would they realistically do? Theyre going to take into consideration what he wants to do (and they cant force him to take the oath in any particular place)

(10,796 posts)then so can Donnie. The quality of winter gear has improved in the last 180 years, so with a big gortex parka, a hat, and Bernie-style mittens he should have no problems giving a 2 hour long speech. Besides, they have outdoor space heaters these days to keep him nice and toasty. The audience might have some problems, but Donnie's been shown not to care about those people in the past.
