https://www.status.news/p/philip-rucker-washington-post-exitPhilip Rucker, The Washington Post's high-profile national editor, has indicated to people that he is exiting the newspaper, according to people familiar with the matter.
-snip-
CNN had been aggressively working to recruit Rucker for a high-ranking Washington position, as we first reported. That effort had been led by the network's top leadership, including CNN boss Mark Thompson, according to people familiar with the matter.
It's not clear whether Rucker has formally accepted CNN's offer, but he had been in the final stages of negotiations with the network this week, according to the people.
Rucker's impending exit is a major loss for The Post, especially with Donald Trump set to reclaim power in just days. He was a member of various teams of reporters awarded Pulitzer Prizes for stories related to Trump.

Rucker has never struck me as Trump-friendly, so this would seem like an odd choice for Trump-friendly CNN.

(17,669 posts)3. Thanks for posting this! I've been wondering about Rucker.
He was Carol Leonnig's co-author on two of the most scathing books documenting Trump's first term, and when I saw that Leonnig had signed the letter yesterday, I basically had assumed Rucker had signed it too.
Unlike Carol Leonnig, Phil Rucker has kept a lower profile for the last couple of years, so I've wondered a lot about where he stands. (He used to be a regular on The 11th Hour and other MSNBC programming).
He's a good, good journalist.
